“Trump, he’s had it with these people, because he knows they’re playing politics,” said the second person. “Nobody thought it was going to last this long.”

Trump and his top aides thought that unpaid federal workers, closed and limited federal facilities and threats of ever-more job cuts from Russ Vought, the director of the Office of Management and Budget, would be too much for Democrats to handle

“I don’t know what’s wrong with them,” he said of Democrats Friday. “They’ve never done a thing like this. They’ve become crazed lunatics. All they have to do is say, ‘Let’s go. Let’s open up our country.’ And everything snaps back into shape. So there’s something wrong with them… It’s their fault. Everything is their fault. It’s so easily solved.”

This is a game of pigeon chess played entirely by pigeons.

If Trump and his cult make the slightest concession the Dems will fold immediately. Then both sides will knock over the remaining pieces and fly back to their flocks to claim victory.

To be fair, I think everyone is baffled that the Dems haven’t caved by now. I didn’t think it was possible to regrow a spine.

Schmuck Schumer thinks he is punishing us as much as the Republicans. He should have shut the government down in the Spring, and he took a LOT of heat for not doing it.

So he let it go forward this time, and probably expected Dems to chicken out by now, only to be surprised that the citizens are demanding that he hold the line.

High health care costs and SNAP benefits hit the Red states much harder than the Blue states, despite the nonsense from the Conservative Propaganda Machine. All the Dems have to do is remain steady, and the MAGAs will either fold, or get destroyed in the Midterms.

Unless they cancel Midterms for the first time in American history, and then it’s on.

And BTW, it’s LONG past time for Schmuck to go. He’s rich enough, time to disengage him from the Congressional Insider Trading Club. Leave some for the rest of them.

I’m glad he’s holding the line now, but it would have been so much better to do it back then.

I really don’t expect them to try and cancel the midterms, but we are going to see voter suppression that’s completely off the scale. We already know they plan to deploy the national guard in all 50 states to “secure the election”. The obvious goal will be to scare minorities away from the polls because of ICE and the normalization of racial profiling, but I wouldn’t put it past them to straight-up cheat as well.

“Trump, he’s had it with these people, because he knows they’re playing politics”

The irony of that statement is so thick you can cut it into pieces.

Well, sure, can’t blame him for that. After decades of the weakest appeasement shit imaginable, why wouldn’t he expect them to fold? It’s what every Democrat has done since Carter - without a single exception.

Trump is delusional and thinks he can bend reality to what he wants to be real.
This type of delusional thinking is very typical in USA, based on the idea that if you want it enough you can make it.
This mantra has become so pervasive that some have begun to believe that you don’t even have to do anything to achieve what you want. If the wanting is strong enough, reality will bend to your will.
This is what happens in an anti science society where the mentality is driven by religion and superstition combined with desperation and a wish for ultimate freedom.
The idea is spread for instance through numerous self help books and prosperity gospel.

USA is a society that has gone collectively insane.

    PS:
That doesn’t mean every American is insane, but as a whole American society is de facto insane. It’s obvious to see everyday in the news.

That’s not America, that’s MAGA. They are profoundly, even proudly, ignorant, with absolutely no Critical Thinking Skills. When you don’t know how to think properly, your brain substitutes a sort of ad hoc chaotic thinking instead, and now THAT is in charge of America.

Most Americans have some level of Critical Thinking Skills, although many apply it only when it’s convenient. For instance, they tend to tuck away their Critical Thinking Skills in church. Unfortunately, some also do this with politics. They’ll accept bullshit in politics that they would never accept anywhere else.

All they have to do is say, ‘Let’s go. Let’s open up our country.’ And everything snaps back into shape.

Except it doesn’t. There’s several cuts that have been made to the budget. While ACA has been the most visible because of the Democrat’s demands. There are cuts that will remove 3 million people from SNAP. $300 Billion removed from Federal education grants to various schools around the country, including rural schools that severe small populations.

The ACA cut has been the one that Democrats have really dug in on, but the OBBBA has tons of cuts that are going to affect everyone. And Democrats have been asking since March to have a seat at the table for shaping what was in OBBBA only to have all their motions to bring to the floor denied.

And that’s the thing. Everyone knew that Senate Democrats were going to be needed for the coming CR. They knew this all the way back in March. By May House Republicans started shutting out Democrats and Senate Democrats told them what was going to happen if the House kept pushing Democrats out of everything. They knew what was coming and they still did it.

Republicans don’t get to do the “my way or the highway thing”, even when the ACA went into effect there were Republican riders that were enacted along with it. Build Back Better included plenty of pork projects for red states. Inflation Reduction Act helped out tons of deep red districts. I’m sure everyone remembers the member of Congress who voted against it but then told constituents how great it was going to be.

Democrats help out Republicans, and the OBBBA completely shutting Democrats out of the process isn’t how Congress does things. So yeah, Republicans are seeing the result of their choices. And they have the opportunity to make different choices.

If you can do it once, you can do it again. Even if they went back to work, or pressured the Dems to back down this time, what assurance do the federal workers have that the republicans won’t just do it again sometime in the future? It’s not even the Dems fault - the RS have had the power to resume business the whole time. Never mind the random furloughing, shutting down of ‘nonessentials’ and doge creeps running around again? That’s just the surface of it.
