But the difference is nothing compared to the accompanying computer tower.*
*Edit 1
idc I can’t read anything in light mode
I use dark mode to save my eyes, not energy.
Interestingly though I haven’t had OLED display on any of my devices since 2015.
Yeah I’m not doing it for the energy savings I’m doing it for personal comfort.
If I was really concerned about energy use at that scale I would simply not use a computer.
I thought that with OLED screens, and a dark mode that supports it, black pixels are actually not backlit, meaning they use less energy. Is that not right?
Right, OP refers to LCD, which is the older tech that works by selective occlusion.
Ah. Thanks for pointing that out, @[email protected]. I was considering an OLED screen to be a modern LCD screen.
Does that mean dark mode isn’t vegan?
That’s why I don’t use LCD if I can help it nowadays
Energy usage is the reason? I hope you understand how negligible it is…
This does not make sense, explain.
LCDs work by using energy to block the backlight strategically. OLEDs work by only lighting up what you’re likely to be able to see in the first place, no backlight.
It almost certainly is slightly more energy intensive, that’s just how LCDs work. I wasn’t under the impression that was why many people prefer dark mode.
I assume due to people turning up brightness when using dark mode? Or what do you mean?
Anyway, easily avoidable by using the superior light mode.
superior light mode.
Is that what we’re calling dark mode nowadays?
I assume due to people turning up brightness when using dark mode?
Yes.
Anyway, easily avoidable by using the superior light mode.
I find it hard to focus on characters using dark mode.
