Science studying the phenomenon have called doors “memory erasers”. Your brain considers a different room the equivalent of a different environment, and tosses out the short term memory from the environment you’re no longer in (the next room over).
The effect is so pronounced it can be replicated by having participants go through a “virtual doorway” on a computer.
Can’t remember if I read this or figured it out myself, as I went through a door immediately after.

Lots of aliens around where I live.
Silence shall fall, when the question is asked!
Yes and a bunch of other stupid questions designed to string you along, until they resolve without actually being all that interesting.
Walks into room sees alien, purposefully forgets alien. Leaves room remember alien, walks into room sees alien, purposefully forgets alien. Repeat like I do with all my problems, I will stare at them for 5 minutes and somehow forget what the problem is while looking dead at it.
oh good. so I’ve got a squatter in every room of my house then
I guess they are my roommates, I struggle with this every day.
Oh my god they were roommates
Fuckers must be like lost flies banging around into the window at my place.
Silence must something
Damn, my Silence is playing full court press and not trying that hard to actually escape then
I think there are far too many gremlins in my home for there to be any space for aliens.
