Regular reminder that if you were born before 1989 you probably only got 1 measles vaccine, as was recommended at the time, and no booster. The booster bumps effectiveness up from 93% to 97%. Honestly I’m really interested to see what judge is finally going to be pushed to the point that they deputize people to go make sure it happens. I think nobody wants to go there because they’re afraid of what will happen, but I’m more afraid of what will happen if we continually allow courts to be optional for this regime.

Abraham Lincoln literally tricked American citizens into supporting the 13th Amendment, thinking it was necessary to stop the Civil War. In reality, Lincoln kept the Civil War going longer than necessary to pass the Amendment.
This is a weird perspective, considering the war ended and Lincoln died before the 13th was ratified. I’ve always been taught the 13th was to settle the legal status of slavery nationwide in a more permanent way than a presidential proclamation.
All I’ve heard for the past 20 years is that it’s impossible for Democrats to get anything done without a supermajority, and there’s nothing they could possibly do about Tea Party (and then MAGA) Republicans blocking all progressive legislation… but suddenly when Republicans are in charge none of these tactics are on the table from Democrats. Expecting people to not notice and criticize them for it is absurd.

The rest isn’t possible without doing this first: limit your doom scrolling. Unless reading the news is your job, don’t live your life like it is. You can stay informed without spending a huge portion of your waking hours doom scrolling.
With all the non-doomscrolling time in your schedule, get involved in your local community. See what events are going on at the library, you can often find organizations through them that are connected to your interests. Colleges often have events open to the community as well. Find places that work around issues that concern you, and volunteer with them if you can. Get therapy if you can access it, god knows enough is going on right now to need it.
These are all things that will increase your resilience and help you find people in your local community to trust. Remaining isolated, afraid, and unable to act is what every fascist government wants of its opponents, so do everything you can to avoid giving them that.
