Catholic priests in Washington state cannot be required to report child abuse or neglect they learn about through confession after the Trump administration intervened in their favor
as it seeks to define transgender rights and healthcare for under-18s as a form of “child abuse”
So if a Catholic priest learns through confession about a trans kid getting lifesaving healthcare, they aren’t going to be required to report it.
They’ll still do it. It doesn’t forbid them from it, just doesn’t enforce it. These shit bags will continue the status quo of hurting those they disagree with and enabling pedophiles.
Theologically, a priest breaking the seal of confession is a grave sin and warrants immediate excommunication. No priest is risking this to out someone during confession.
Since Washington State law supports trans care for minors, would reporting it even harm anyone? Is it even a sin to be confessed?
As for the argument that if they report the rape and abuse confessions the pedos won’t confess, then the result is that they don’t get absolution and their souls burn in hell.
