Three people killed and 20 wounded as missiles and drones strike Ukrainian capital
Russia launched an intense missile and drone barrage at Kyiv overnight, killing four people, after Vladimir Putin had vowed to respond to Operation Spiderweb.
Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said on Friday that Russia had launched more than 400 drones and more than 40 missiles at the country, as he urged allies to build pressure on the Kremlin to end its war.
“If someone does not put pressure and gives the war more time to take lives, they are complicit and responsible. We need to act decisively,” Zelenskyy wrote in a post on social media.
Ukraine does a methodical surgical strike against military targets. Russia responds with chaotic attack on the civilian capital.
Life rarely gives you such clear “good vs evil” distinctions yet plenty of people refuse to accept it.

Maybe someone was working on a plane randomly, but the runways seemed pretty empty.
I was going to note that and the fact that Russia’s attack on Kyiv killed four innocent people, but I didn’t have the actual casualty report of the Ukrainian operation and I didn’t want to be one of those people that makes statements without being sure of the facts. So, I left it out…but yes, I think that is a fairly safe assumption.

If I were Ukraine, I’d probably rather have those drones aimed at Kyiv rather than somewhere else (well, anywhere else with targets; open sea would be preferable), though. From what I’ve read in the past, Kyiv has been allocated a solid amount of air defense, even when there wasn’t sufficient for other cities to be well-covered, and I’d guess that they probably have fairly heavy anti-drone and anti-missile defenses. Given that you’d rather have a drone run into anti-drone defenses than into something important, that’s on the order of 400 drones and 40 missiles that weren’t used in a concentrated attack on a potentially-important target that might have had less protection.

It does seem that Kyiv has by far the best AA defence systems in the country. For what it’s worth, I’d rather they target Kyiv if that helps blunt the impact of the attacks.
That being said, it’s not fun to have constant shockwaves and loud noises from explosions/takedowns all night. Not to mention the risk of death/getting wounded and/or having your apartment be heavily damaged.
Best option would be if all regions could have an AA defence comparable to Kyiv, but unfortunately that’s not possible.
