  • We already have zero knowledge proof in Germany, but nearly no one uses it.

    Our ID cards have an embedded private key.

    The theoretical flow is (very simplified of course)

    1. Webseite sends challenge to a locally running app
    2. App request the ID card (NFC, you can use your mobile phone as a reader)
    3. Reader asks for pin
    4. Requested information from website are show (for example pseudonym id, full data, age verification onlz, so older 18 or older 21)
    5. You acknowledge this
    6. Signed message with requested information is send back to server
    7. Server verifies signature with official key servers of the federal authority for our ID cards.

    Works, secure and save.

    But, because of privacy concerns, many users did not activate this feature and, besides some government websites, nobody essentially accepts it.

    Also, it is hard to explain that, despite the fact that your ID card acting as the private key, your signature is anonymous if you don’t explicitly allow the websites to see your data









  • So? The idea itself is not inherently bad. If I want to vote in Germany I go to the local polling station, show my ID (proof if citizenship) and hand over my voting documents (so I can only vote once, also the volunteers will mark me on a list) and I vote. And no, I don’t have to register to vote.

    Your problem is that your common way of identifying is your damn drivers license and not an ID card like in nearly every other country.

    Not defending this big, orange, walking, talking and shaking with his little hands, asshole. Just saying, not all of your problems are caused by him. Many of them are inherent to your political system.






  • We are leasing our cars.

    Regarding the feel: The car does feel surprisingly light. Besides his 2.2 metric tons.

    At least here in Europe, the Tesla superchargers work with the car.

    Not sure if this generation is already available in the US. I am german, so BMW is a natural choice ;).

    Currently, BMW is using the same base for combustion and electric cars to safe costs ans be more flexible how to fit the chassis. That may be a reason for the success.

    Nor sure how the price in the US is, the list price for my nearly fully equipped i5 is around 90k€. The only thing I am missing is the pneumatic dampeners. They come only with red or blue breaks, and company policy does not allow for “racing looks”.
