The moral stance of “everyone else is terrible so I should be able to be terrible too” is arguably why everything remains terrible. That’s even a pre-utilitarian argument, which itself is extremely outdated. Unfortunately most people don’t have the free time to explore moral philosophy and they certainly don’t teach it as standard in school for some reason.
