  • Time pressure doesn’t mean a scam, but remember the job application process is a chance for you to assess them as well. Some people think everything is a time critical emergency and they really aren’t worth working for.

If you are talking to them directly and they divert you to some application portal. I don’t know, doesn’t seem like it’s that much of a problem. If they need you now, but can’t cut through the red tape of a company you own?

  • Threaten in the sense that it competes with, and is built under a different economic system. Got the free market folk all ruffled because it isn’t playing the game the way they want it played.

It has it’s own limitations of course, and the full strength version isn’t quite ‘run at home’ but it is pretty close, and there are weaker versions that can even be run on an SBC (if slowly). It’s definitely in reach of the enthusiast though.

It’s also supposed to have some strong reasoning capabilities (haven’t tested myself yet) which is a big thing compared to your common or garden chat bots that at best sometimes know facts.

Yeah, this is much the same kind of use. If you work on the assumption that it is just something that has read everything, and everything that has been written about everything you can find it’s utility. Folk want it to be some kind of fact genie, but the only facts it knows are what words go together, and it literally doesn’t know the difference between real and made up.

Isn’t the entire purpose of copilot that it shouldn’t need much in the way of training? I think the extent of it at my employer is “this is the one you use.”

I’ve tried it a few times, the only thing it seems remotely good for is when your recollection of a source is too fuzzy to form a traditional search query around. “What’s that book series I read in the early 2000s about kids who traveled to another world and the things they brought back from it just looked like junk.” Kind of questions.

At home I can deal with it (and have done). Hotels are a different story and they don’t all have shower heads you can reposition. I’ve even been in ones where the gap between my head and the ceiling would not fit a showerhead between.

Same with sinks and work surfaces. If I control the space you can bet it’s all comfortable for me, but I don’t always had that luxury.
