I think thats a good position to have, if librewolf works for you i hope it continues to do so.
I used to be more of an open source purist but recent and not so recent events have shifted my thinking, it seems to be one of the four freedoms is regularly taken advantage of by corporations and should be reconsidered. Not that we as individuals shouldnt have those freedoms, but for-profit corps specifically have proven time and time again that they will only take and never give back.
Its just as open source as the other chromium based browsers
They also have very valid reasons for keeping the features that make the UI unique closed, seeing how many open source projects like ffmpeg get completely taken advantage of its a smart move.
Youll find that parts of brave arent actually open source either, such as their built in AI or the build in crypto wallet.
At some point you gotta ask if its worth having open source purity tests when even the flagship products are shoveling AI and other garbage no one wants into their browser.
Librewolf might pass that purity test for now, but without mozilla librewolf likely would not continue, vivaldi does not have this problem.

Give vivaldi a try, not because brave is bad, but because vivaldi is better in every way.

I was thinking of both tastic and core, but i wasnt aware core had a closed source app. The only paywalled limitation seems to be using that specific mobile app to manage repeaters remotely, meshcore-cli has no such arbitrary limitations.
Mainly my point is that as long as the protocol is open nothing is stoping someone elss from creating a version that removes any paywalled limitations.

I dont know if maybe there are premiun features with some apps but so far as i know the meshcore app is free as well, if it was to be paywalled the oldest non paywalled version would still work and most people probably wouldnt upgrade, its not like with a phone or other manufacturer locked device that can force upgrades and prevent downgrades, if a new update gets released and paywalls old festures most people would just not update.
I could totally see some unofficial third party clients or things with improvements being paywalled by smaller groups or individual devs, but as a whole i dont think it would affect users ability to use the network.
I could see newer features and improvements being paywalled in theory but i dont think it would be profitable to actively lock out older/free users. Anything too enshittifiying would either be ignored by most users or cracked and removed.

Its certainly a valid fear in general these days but given the target audience of meshtastic is at least in part a lot of off-the-grid, diy sort of folks, i dont think enshittification would get very far.
Im now getting into meshcore after having been playing with meshtastic for about a year, i plan to run nodes for both. If a third thing comes along ill probably run that too but so far im not aware of anything notable.

He did promise to bring drug prices down by over 100% so maybe that’s part of the plan.

This is awesome! I’m now using the swarm to control my living room lights.
I would consider nuclear winter a pretty big change in climate.
Although patrolling the mojavi might make you wish for one…

This isnt corpo friendly reddit, you can just say it.
Death to America!

It should be okay to power from any phone that supports battery sharing.
The antenna that come with them are usually okay but eventually youll probably want to look into getting a better one. The small ones wont send far, but you should be able to see other far off nodes if they are high enough, they just probably wont see you.

I bet thats true of most jobs

I dont find needing to knowing how to use the most common way of setting up servicss is gate keepy.
If you dont want to learn things then it probably is better to just pay someone else to handle the setup i dont think there is anything wrong with doing it that way either.

Fair point, if the majority of your browisng is social media or phone apps i dont think you are the target audicence for this.
I know google hates it because even before the manifest v3 stuff it was banned by them, its probably a not insignificant part of WHY they forced the move to manifest v3.
With how anyltics work, just like with adblocking in general its a constant cat and mouse game, and that in itself also costs the advertisers money in having to keep up with the anti-advertising methods.

Did you know there is a browser extension that does this for you while also blocking ads from view?

Let me tell you about my friend adnauseam
Even better then just harassment, it actively wastes advertiser money by messing with their click-through stats. The more people that run it the less valuable advertising online in general becomes.
Also i would say to a leaser degree Adblocking in general is why people arent more active about fighting back, since they work its enough for most folks to just avoid the problem rather then confront it head on.

You could do most of it with a website like craigslist, the hard part is managing reputations/feedback.
I really hate to say it but i suppose you could use some blockchain based system for tracking reputations… That or pgp, but realistically it seems to be a billion times easier to convince people to “use blockchain” than it is to get them to use pgp.
It’s also about driving engagement, a vibes based article about a poll will have a lot more engagement when its shared around social media. Sure you’d still have some people arguing and engaging regalardless, but a large and very vocal portion of the internet has been trained now to just ignore facts that don’t fit their narrative as being funded by George Soros or similar such non-sense, they see a title like “data driven research shows economic conditions worsening in key areas” they skip over it as boring and too complicated to understand, but if they see a title saying americans “feel” a certain way, then they as an american (or someone pretending to be american) can chime in about how they personally dont feel that way and anyone who does feel that way is lazy and stupid, and then it becomes a whole chain of people doing that and others citing factual data which then gets ignored.
