Built a new small PC recently and set up dual-boot with 2 drives… Linux was easier to set up and get running overall than Windows 11. When I installed Linux, it found my drive to install on with no problem, but W11 could not without bringing over Intel storage drivers on a USB stick. Linux had built-in drivers for all of the hardware, everything working right on first startup. Windows required me to download Wifi drivers onto a USB stick from another computer before I could download anything. Windows also required for me to download many other drivers from the motherboard mfr website. Now Windows is hassling me to activate with a non-generic product key that I didn’t buy yet. Linux just worked from the start.

Yep, this is the big story in it I think as well. Sen. Ron Wyden has been investigating the Epstein financial ties and has uncovered billions in suspect wire transfers that several big banks bent the rules on for him.

It’s often a great day when the trump cult bullshit gets closely examined in a court of law. Because when all you have is bullshit, it’s pretty hard to prove anything with it.

Fine, it should be interesting to see the numbers of participants on both sides of this. Imagine being a soldier being deployed against the people of your own country, and seeing their numbers outnumber your company by 100 to 1 or more. If they’re not fully committed nazis they should be wondering if they are on the wrong side by then.

Same here, as I only use open-source clients on the phone. It’s been obvious for many years that the apps made by the social media companies are spyware, so I’ve stayed away from them.

But also I use the web mostly, and “switching” on the web just means closing one tab and opening another to visit a different URL. It’s sad that many folks who use the Internet don’t understand how or try to avoid the hellscape of app lock-in. The web is here for our open usage just as it has been for decades.

Well what you’re deciding to believe about that is just wrong. Members of the Biden administration did assist (D) senator Wyden’s investigation into wire transfers of billions of dollars to Epstein, which is still ongoing and he has published a list of dozens of names that he found records of financial involvement with Epstein. That investigation which Biden staff cooperated with is being blocked by Trump’s staff currently.

Self-hosters are probably the type of people who are interested in getting away from “big tech” corporate solutions for everything, so it makes sense that they would prefer Fediverse versions

You don’t have to host your whole family’s library though. You can start with whatever you want and be on the road to improving your setup.
