He works from home. 12 hour shifts, 10 days on, 4 days off. He already had a bit of a loner personality before that job, but it’s turned him into a complete hermit now. I don’t really blame him, it’s a rough schedule, but I personally would’ve just found another line of work. Anyway, as a result of that he often goes well over a week without stepping foot outside. Everyday he orders food through Uber eats, as well as having groceries delivered that way. Everything he “knows” of the world is delivered through the internet. Most often through just headlines and reddit comments. I’m still waiting for him to go on a tirade over 4B, similar to how he found out every woman in the world would go out of their way to encounter a blood thirsty bear in the woods than come across a nice strong helpful man.

My roommate is chronically online and headlines like this lead him to believe that it’s next to impossible to meet women that aren’t actively participating on the 4B movement. I’m not trying to say anything negative about it, but is there really anything going on there past headlines? I know I live in my own bubble within the whole wide world, but I haven’t heard anything about 4B outside of lemmy personally. I sometimes get the $5 bag from wendys. It fills me up. I used to use the taco bell app to get a cravings box for $6 or $7 dollars, but my credit cards would become compromised. It happened to 2 cards only when I used the taco bell app. I refuse to spend $10 on fast food. The quality is just so bad I can justify spending $5. My girlfriend wanted a sundae from McDonald’s the other day and the person in front of me ordered 2 mcchickens for $5. When I was in high school I could buy 1 for $1. They were barely worth it then.

I don’t think giving users the freedom to choose what they want or don’t want to see encourages anything. Some of us are here for the memes or literally anything other than politics. Everytime a debate about defederating comes up, that fact is the first thing everyone forgets about

I’m not an expert on the subject, but i didn’t see anyone else mention time as a factor. For a long time humans were simply too busy trying to survive. Once civilizations started coming around along with extremely wealthy and powerful people, then more time for leisure, art, and science came. Some of the extremely wealthy people of the past hired artists, mathematicians, scientists, musicians, etc to just live with them and study full time. The expectation was that they would share their work.

I agree with you there. I’ve personally found it very interesting to try new programs and figure out each one’s layout and work flow, but I’ve found many people absolutely hate doing that. I get it, if you want to just use the product for what it’s intended for maybe you don’t want to waste time learning the differences. All of that in consideration, I don’t think gimp is that bad

It used to be way worse. I first tried gimp 10ish years ago and instead of the program running from a single window it was like the canvas, the hierarchy tree, and every other toolbox had its own separate window. I think they updated that a while ago now.

Or the servers do know that and don’t want to collect on a few extra bucks to lose their job the next day.

+1 for anki. I struggled for years to find anything decent for Swahili and there is more content for Swahili than I got out of Duolingo. One thing I didn’t know about anki until i tried it because I didn’t see anyone mention it, the flashcards can include pictures/videos/audio.
