Your condemnation is cheap. I see a collection of great books and movies. And then I see you here, anonymously whining. Three guesses which impresses me more.
Then you haven’t seen her twitter platform, listened to years of trans advocacy for her to stop cheering on the brigading of bigotry or you just don’t care.
Ostrich head in the sand, boot in the mouth or apathetic bystander to bigotry. Whatever the cope it’s past time defending her. Enjoy your wizard shit quietly.
Maybe writing a masterpiece doesn’t excuse the harm one continues to perpetrate. Also my outrage is not secondhand. I am part of the community she has been campaigning against.
I look down on anonymous criticism of great artists. I look down on membership in the outrage mob. I look down on that damnable mediocrity and pettiness.
Lemmy is not an anonymous community, it’s pseudonymous. It also doesn’t take a literary genius, merely someone with a healthy amount of empathy, to understand that treating someone with hatred for an immutable characteristic is bigoted and wrong. I don’t believe that to be an outrageous opinion.
Oh do shut up. I’m a big Harry Potter fan (or at least used to be), and part of a well known group of fans, but at least we all have the decency to be thoroughly pissed off by the woman. If you love Potter so much, how come you missed the message of the books (don’t be a bigot) and the current behaviour of their writer (a bigot)?
PS Dickens was a misogynist and Dahl was a racist and anti-semite. But we can’t criticise them because they’re good authors?
Anonymous criticism is lhe least effort contribution to the conversation. Playing your part in the outrage mob takes the least intelligence, the least insight. So when you do that, when you shout in chorus with the rest of the mob like that, conforming like that, you show yourself to be very very small. Like a crawling worm.
And when you get out there and put the best you’ve got into a piece of art that blows the minds of an entire generation, you show yourself to be very very large. Like a soaring eagle.
Wow, I mean the first like 3 books are actually quite good (there was a void for this kind of writing, “serious” fantasy, and still exist IMO), but the rest was just mediocre. Especially from book 5 and onwards.
The first movie is pretty good IMO, but that’s because it gets to introduce all of the creative (if highly derivative) world building.
Past that, they rely more and more on quality of writing more than merely existing in a neat (if a bit nonsensical and still highly flawed) world. So… yeah, entertainment value dips off pretty hard.
Yes, let us defend the billionaire bigot from a mean word online.
How does boot taste?

How about you separate the author from the works? You can think her books were great, but it doesn’t change that she’s extremely bigoted.
Then you haven’t seen her twitter platform, listened to years of trans advocacy for her to stop cheering on the brigading of bigotry or you just don’t care.

Maybe write your own masterpiece and I will take your secondhand outrage more seriously.

So, the only difference between Hitler being good or bad is the number of paintings that he managed to sell? Wow…
I wondered when Hitler was arriving. Bravo.
Sorry to keep you waiting, I know you are such a fan of his work.
Yet you still don’t understand why that was relevant… Extremely sad. No wonder you like JK if your reading comprehension is this low…
Only other successful authors can criticise successful authors behaviour now? fuck that.
The fact she wrote a masterpiece has no bearing on the fact she is a total bigot in social media.

if you look down on anonymous discussion, and see it as cheap and cowardly, what the fuck are you even doing here on lemmy in the first place?!
I look down on anonymous criticism of great artists. I look down on membership in the outrage mob. I look down on that damnable mediocrity and pettiness.
Perhaps you misread.
Perhaps it is you that is mediocre and petty.
Hey, real quick, what’s your opinion of Kanye West?
So, show me your masterpiece you wrote.
Or shut up?

And for a worm to criticise an eagle is absurd.
LMAO
The lady who came up with the “slavery is good actually” race of people isn’t who I would call an Eagle.
You simply love the taste of boot. Sycophants are some of the dumbest people to exist, yet you happily place yourself there…
Have fun being that which you hate: a worm.
Oh yes, of course. She can’t be a horrible transphobe! She wrote some books!
Dude unapologetically espouses a transphobic bigot, we’ve seen what impresses you chud, it isn’t a goal worth attaining.
Wow, I mean the first like 3 books are actually quite good (there was a void for this kind of writing, “serious” fantasy, and still exist IMO), but the rest was just mediocre. Especially from book 5 and onwards.
The films? They are so bad it’s not even funny.
The first movie is pretty good IMO, but that’s because it gets to introduce all of the creative (if highly derivative) world building.

Fair enough. As for the films, flawed yes, but I like their vibe.
