I immediately took your first sentence to mean exactly what you intended.
But then I took “grandcats” to mean the children of your cats.
That seems like a likely use of it.
“HI DAD!!! Let me show you around my new house! So this is the living room, and over here—”
“Yeah yeah yeah, good job. You bought a house. Where are the cats?”
“Uhhh…upstairs I think?”
“Great. Let me know when dinners ready. I’ll be spending time with my loved ones.”
“…okay…dad…”
