61 countries have supported South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel alleging genocide, Al Jazeera reports . The first hearing on the case in the UN International Court of Justice will be held on Thursday, 11 January. The suit was supported by the Organisation of Islamic Countries, which consists of 57 states, including Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan...
Anyone want to bet that the map of countries supporting South Africa will look surprisingly similar to the map of countries who recognize Palestine, which coincidentally happens to look surprisingly similar to the map of countries who do not condemn China for Xinjiang?
I guess people killed under bombs in the last few months deserved it then? Or what’s your point?
USSR sometimes took pretty valid positions too.
The only thing worse than a Cold War mindset is an uncritical Cold War mindset, where we just accept that one side was making trouble and the other side was galactic good. Pinochet doesn’t seem that for me, for example.
It is valid to call out motivation and engage in discussion around it. It doesn’t invalidate the case being brought but too often people and the media like to frame the situation in terms of morality.
South Africa and the other countries that support the case are likely not (only?) taking a moral stance.
I, like OP and others, see these articles and wonder why this genocide but not that one. I think that’s the difference between a human view and a political one.
It’s highly unlikely that one side happens to be entirely on the side of genocide in one issue and entirely on the side of the victims in another issue. Either the Palestinian genocide or the Uyghur genocide are happening, but not both.

Could you please provide some actual arguments? Because this is horse shit.
Of course it’s likely and it often happens.
Actually IRL it’s more often that not like this. Israel supporting Azerbaijan against Armenians, for example.

Almost every nation in the South America, West Africa, East Europe, Middle Asia and individually-located notable countries like Turkey and Mexico recognize the Palestinian statehood, while not officially taking any stance in China’s Xinjiang policies. There is a whole lots of difference, more than 7 if you are into childrens drawings games, openly visible in very distinct and legible colors for normal human perception. Maybe you are in a “western propaganda corporate” that can’t find the differences.
The question is, do you deny the internationally proven, caught-in-the-act photographs and videos of killings of thousands of civilians by IDF, most of which are children, minors and innocent adult men and women. I’m not even mentioning the after-action reports, which can be exaggerated or outright set up as we have seen in most IDF reports and some Hamas reports.
Do you mean to say your humanism extends only to be used as political grounds for making up a casus belli against countries your Anglosphere (plus Japan and S. Korea) doesn’t like and would love to get a piece of, since we have seen what it did to the countries in South America and Middle East in the last century?
I am a proponent of the current human rights and individual identity being exercised in European countries. I wish that level of personal freedom could be exercised in the rest of the world. However, I’m aware of the circumstances in which these developed, including colonialism, exploitation, invasions and slavery and the resulting robbery of wealth of the rest of the world, hiding behind the war machines of innocent science and reason.
What we see from these maps is how your developed countries are lying and genociding hypocrites, compared to rest of the world’s utter piece of craps being blatant genociders. Go have your eyes or brain checked, we are tired of your subversive attempts at acquitting genocide committed by your Israeli government allies.
Are you seriously still bringing up Xinjiang. The so called “genocide” has been debunked multiple times. The case in the UN has been dropped.
No muslim majority country condemns China because there is nothing to condemn as genocide.
Lets note that no Chinese government official has ever considered the policies enacted in xinjiang as a “fight between the childrens of light and dark”

Yes, I can’t see any reason why countries would acknowledge or ignore genocides depending on their strategic interests /s

Oh, you are simply a troll.
Israel supports ethnic cleansing in Azerbaijan and in Gaza. Sounds consistent to me.
Well, they are entirely on the side of the victims in one other small event.

Blue - countries which oppose China’s policies in Xinjiang
Grey - countries which do not recognize Palestinian statehood
Corporate wants you to find the difference between these two pictures

What’s the implication of this.
