Iran is deploying new tactics to target ships sailing through the Strait of Hormuz as it seeks to keep oil prices high and influence the US midterm elections, two senior Iranian officials told Reuters.
Tehran has tried to exert control over the Strait of Hormuz since the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran on February 28. It has restricted passage through the waterway, which carried about a fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas trade before the war, in an effort to gain leverage over Washington.
Its threats and attacks have severely curtailed traffic through the strait, driving up oil prices, though some oil has continued to transit.
Who would’ve thought that a portion of america would be cheering for Iran in an Iran vs usa/israel war.
That enemy is really outsmarting us, the amount it is outsmarting us is enormous, very big, it is outsmarting us more than anyone has ever outsmarted anyone. People have said to me, smart people, that enemy is outsmarting you more than anyone has been outsmarted before.
It’ll be really interesting to see how this dynamic changes post-midterms.
Right now it’s pretty clear Trump is doing his best to just avoid having Iran in the news.
After the midterms, incentives change a lot. Trump will never be up for re-election, and I’m not sure at that point if he cares much about public opinion. In some ways, he’ll have a lot fewer constraints. But… he’ll probably lose congress. He likes to ignore congress though.
I don’t know how this is going to play out, but I think we’re in for a real shit-show after the midterms.
