Donald Trump’s nominee to serve as a top independent watchdog at the Department of Justice has refused to call the January 6 insurrection an “attack” during questioning by US senators.

Don Berthiaume, a career justice department employee who has been serving as inspector general at the agency, faced senators as part of his confirmation process to take up the role permanently on Wednesday.

Berthiaume was praised by some as a veteran of the department and not an overtly loyalist pick to serve in the role. Trump’s justice department has pursued his retribution agenda and faced criticism for a lack of independence from the president.

It’s properly called terrorism, and it was paired with a coup attempt on the part of the administration that lost in a free and fair election.

I mean he’s not the first one. All of Trump’s stooges refuse to call it what it is. They refused to do so in front of Congress and also refused to state who win the 2020 election.

Unpopular opinion: Our current definition of “freedom of speech” (and what is allowed under it) needs a major overhaul. Queue the inevitable “slippery slope” and “who decides what’s true” bullshit; what we have clearly isn’t working and the stupidity competition we have among MAGAts in this country no longer allow them that privilege.
