during a three-hour virtual meeting attended by about 7,000 of the co-operative’s 17,000 members

Holy fuck! At my neighborhood meetings, we’re lucky if we get more than about 50 out of 15K residents attending, and if you see more than 100 you know there’s a real shitstorm on the agenda. Can y’all even fathom how pissed off people have to be for 7 thousand to show up to a three-hour meeting?!

I’m more surprised that a co-op of that size is even a thing, unless I’m missing something usually they become something like a syndicalist system with an elective structure to run things. But I guess it depends how localized everything is, could get away with just not having higher structures than managers if you organized things right.
