people recommend i listen to audiobooks to avoid that but it takes way longer to find the place i started drifting off on an audio file than in a book, plus i catch myself quicker for some reason
I got an e-reader which should be able to do both. I thought: maybe it works if I listen to the audio book and read it at the same time. Turns out you can’t do both on the e-reader at the same time. Sigh.
Also, when listening to an audio book written from one perspective is reasonably fine, but books with different stories and time lines eventually coming together is just too confusing. I listened to the Handmaid’s Tale which was fine. The books of The Expanse however, I could not handle (I quit after the first 3 chapters of book 1). “Who was he again? Where are they? Wait, did I miss something? Whaaaat?”
Watching series works best for me. I need to see it, hear it, with English subtitles so I can read it. I wish I was better at reading books, I’m really missing out on great stories and on the original stories of the series that I watch.
And listening to someone else read is not as mentally stimulating as reading words off the page ourselves.
My head needs time to follow up on things that otherwise goes on during my day. Attempting to fill that time with audio books just creates a background noise which while my head speaks louder. I need to dedicate real free time before actually engaging with audio books.
You guys can still read?
I can read and have read for twenty hours straight, (mal)adaption is funny like that.
In one eye and out the other.
I’m in this meme and I don’t like it.
I get to read books for the first time three times fuck off this is my super power you can’t take it
Sigh
I have that sometimes while watching something and then my brain just switches off for a few minutes and then i’d be like fuck… time to rewind.
Happens more often with my girlfriend but that’s because she has a tendency to start vomiting words that are in no way related to what we were talking about and i also stopped watching movies and shows with her because she can’t watch a movie she needs it narrated, she would ask something and then the thing she asked about would happen or be explained 5 seconds later and i’d of course be pissed off “just watch the damn thing and all will become clear” hour and a half movie has 50 questions.
