Are investors from the US or our government allowed to buy swathes of real estate in the PRC to the same extent that the CCP or Chinese investors are allowed to?
Yes, and I know it’s obvious, but the reason for the difference is that China’s leader is not a demented psychopath who decides he wants whatever the last person he spoke with told him to want. So they kind of have the upper-hand in the negotiation.
Xi: “Yes, you have Trump Tower in Beijing, Shanghai, wherever. You no pay full price for building, you no worry about maintenance, power, anything. You just pay much smaller monthly fee.”. Trump: “That’s great, you will be so lucky having so many big, beautiful Trump Towers all over Chyna”
Later…
Trump: “Best deal ever, truly art of the deal, I totally fleeced Xi”. Lackey: “Ah, sir. You won’t own anything. Xi was talking about a lease.”. Trump: You’re fired!"
