Used to mean “this is fake”, now it means “an actual human was involved in the creation of this, please enjoy”
A classy form of fake that requires skill to perform
Same with “I solved this with a calculator”.
and “here’s the wikipedia article that backs up my claim”
Man, I want artisan bullshit, not machine-generated slop.
Even worse, tangible mediums (paint, canvas, paper, pen,…) almost seem like some primitive long lost art.
It’s become somewhat grey, too. Someone might have spent hours skillfully putting something together in PS, to spending five minutes applying the right tools to an existing piece, or doing little more than clicking a couple times to apply a complex filter, completely transforming a piece.
I’m definitely in the second category for all my art in general. Minimal, decisive, meaningful.
There’s tons of ai tools in Photoshop though
last time i checked (2024) there was only content aware replace/stretch, and a bunch of those face filters
has that changed?
Yep, you can select an area and make a generative edit
yeah except that PS is chocked full of AI bullshit now
I really think we need to not consider everything AI. Like auto selection tools have existed for so long and its the same sorta algorithm but computer generated. Thats where you know it was low skill. Computers dont have skills they have efficiency. Computer generated is low skill and super efficient, like the tools we make from them.
Puritan gatekeepers have always existed. It’s just the goalposts that keep moving.
its largely been replaced by AI. PS requires some “skill” to use, and certain instiution heavily discourages like in labs that use microscopy.
