Assaults on military recruiters almost tripled to 341 last year compared with 2024, and more than 100 have been recorded so far this year, the Interfax-Ukraine news service reported earlier this month, citing police data. Some attacks involved knives, leading to serious injuries and at least one fatality, according to public reports.
Ukraine must rely on conscription and appeals to patriotism to bolster its forces of about 900,000 against Russia’s full-scale invasion. Under martial law, all men aged between 25 and 60 are eligible for military service in Ukraine if they receive a draft notice, unless they have an exemption. But official data show that about 2 million are being sought by police due to violations of conscription rules.
I couldn’t imagine dying for Ukraine or Russia. Both are incredibly corrupt and are just using their citizens as meatbags to further the wealth of their rulers.

Who said anything about mercenaries? This is all about drafted soldiers for the Ukrainian military. If Russia was trying to conquer my country and I wanted to get involved, no, I would not fight as a mercenary.
Then I misunderstood. I thought you meant you’d be going to the current war and fighting there. Did you instead mean, that the drafted ukrainians should be willing to die?
I won’t fault anyone who refuses to fight and possibly die for nation state business. I think it’s admirable that some of them are willing to defend their homeland from an encroaching tyrant, but I won’t expect it of anyone. I think we should all have the right to pacifism, so long as we are willing to accept the consequences of living in a world that does not share that ideal.

If by “NATO ideals”, you mean some idea of western imperialism, then no. If instead you mean defending myself and my allies from completely unwarranted attacks in direct violation of previous agreements from a nation that will obviously abuse them if allowed to, then yeah.
I don’t think you understand this conflict as well as you’re pretending to. I don’t really understand it thoroughly but I do understand way more than “Russia attacked Ukraine out of nowhere because they’re evil” which is usually followed by “Putin is evil and also a communist and wants to bring back the USSR which is evil”
