I have some old Glenn Campbell and George Straight records. Lots of good country music so long as you steer clear of the algorithmic stadium country that’s everywhere. There are even really good modern country artists like Sturgill Simpson.
Tyler Childers is pretty good
Sturgill Simpson as well. I’d throw in Billy Strings too, though he’s more bluegrass/jamgrass than outlaw country. But yeah there’s a lot of good musicians that are the antithesis of modern stadium country.
A song I just got hooked on from him is biting list. Such a good way to tell someone to fudge off.
Country aint for everyone, but if you enjoy any amount of variance there is probably some country out there youd like.
Country as a genre is pretty low on my list, but Charley fucking Crockett? Drive by? Thats some decent current country.
Obvs Cash is the height of the past, his last few cover albums are a great way to ease into the genre.
