The promise made by EU foreign ministers on Monday not to take part in the war against Iran (“This is not our war”) lasted just three days. On Thursday, the heads of state and government of France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, the UK and Japan issued a joint statement in which they pledged to keep the Strait of Hormuz open.

The statement makes no mention whatsoever of the US and Israel, which attacked Iran 20 days ago in violation of international law and have been bombing it non-stop ever since. Instead, it blames the victim for the war and accuses Iran of breaking international law.

And despite not naming the US and Israel (because diplomatic statements are weird), it does include a explicit call for “all sides” to respect international law and a moratorium on striking energy and civilian infrastructure, which encompasses their actions, too.

Not that the wording isn’t explicitly created to be served to Trump as appeasement, but it’s also absolutely not what the headline or the article says it is.

They’ll probably help to reopen the strait tho. France even has agreements that say so.

But only after the war has ended and a diplomatic solution has been found And this context isn’t provided here.

France and others are currently protecting the island of Cyprus which lies between Greece & Türkiye in the Mediterranean Sea ( it’s like 2.200 km on the other side)

I didn’t read : I am tired of Europe. As a french citizen, I once was very proud of belonging to the European Union. Now it just feels like a sad burden. Our leaders (with the notable exception of Spain) are constantly running after trump or netanyahu most of the time on their knees. No backspine, no concern for anything but their own effing business. Macron, mertz, vanderlayen, they’re just servants of the capitalism. They’ll join that the war if they can make profit out of it.

Well good luck then. I mean I know Germans will gladly die for Israel, heck they went fascist for Israel already (guess being Nazis once wasn’t enough), but Japan? Imagine getting mocked by Trump, being nuked by the US twice and then forever being little cucks of the US. Countries too weak to stand up against Trump are too weak to do anything. They might as well just tell their citizens they are subservient to a pedo.

Bro, EU isn’t going to war. They are working on a clearance of the Hormuz, and only if us and Israel promise not to use drones and missiles over the area.

Indeed. Pledging to keep the Strait of Hormuz open would likely be most easily accomplished by applying pressure on the US and Israel to de-escalate, and negotiating with Iran to get its cooperation. European military force isn’t going to add anything that the US isn’t already capable of.

Lol, they aren’t going to war. 🤣 Iran is just going to let US allies come & take over the Straight of Hormuz on their behalf. They’ll be welcomed as heroes.

They have litterally said they only go under “certain circumstaces” - which is not missiles and drones in the area. If there isn’t made a deal before hand, no allys.

Yeah okay. Like I said good luck to them. You seem convinced, so let’s see. The US would love nothing more to play a Netanyahu & put their troops in harm’s way. Trump can promise all he wants but once they die for Israel as well then they’ll get dragged in.
