China is moving to approve a sweeping law to promote what it calls “ethnic unity,” a measure that critics say would further erode the rights of some minority groups as authorities cement a push toward assimilation.
Academics and observers say the new provision represents a setback for the identity of ethnic minorities because it mandates the use of Mandarin Chinese in compulsory education, among other things.

Wait, what? China literally does constant propaganda about accepting all the cultures and trying to dispel the bigotry of thr people
This is the stated reasoning for it https://english.cctv.com/2026/03/08/ARTIJc8xDJItXkz9P4fjkDUE260308.shtml
God, I WISH my government would promote the economic development of minorities
It is almost as if it is a lying authoritarian regime.
Well there is your answer
Every country does propaganda constantly. Its not inherently bad. Plus, I was referring to them proactively trying to build a collective and cohesive society between 5 disparate groups. I tbink thats very admirable. Wouldn’t it be, is america did that? Shit like: “we are all chinese”
They accept all the cultures as long as they’re all Han
I get the joke but is it based in reality, at all?
You mean, is the Chinese government set on eliminating and assimilating all ethnicities and cultural heritages that differ from the Han people? Yes.
What source do you have for that?
How about the article linked in this very post, for one?
