I work at a very large multinational corporation with a republican CEO/founder that’s publicly supported Trump in the past.
One of the VPs posted to our ‘all company’ community about a contest, creating an art piece including the company logo, to potentially be featured at a FIFA fan festival. Winner gets some tickets to a FIFA game or a cash equivalent.
I responded with a link to an article about FIFA creating a ‘peace prize’ to kiss Trumps ass with and said that we should not affiliate ourselves with FIFA and that I would not participate.
I stand by that opinion; but posting it like that may have just gotten me fired… I went back in this morning to delete it as fast as I could when It dawned on me just how badly I fucked up. Edited the comment to remove its contents, then deleted the comment. It’s Sunday morning; hopefully I got back to it before it was seen by too many and hopefully before it comes back to bite me.
I need my job. I can’t afford to job hunt again right now. I need to learn to shut the fuck up.
Go self report to HR right now (so they read it on Monday morning). Say you’re willing to apologize publicly and do any communication training. If HR is aware when the VP goes to them with the complaint, they might have something to defend you. Lay it on thick - say you got triggered and shouldn’t have sent it and you definitely need the job because of financial difficulties and it would mean the world if the company (and that HR specifically) supported you in this difficult time in your life.
I’m thinking about this, but my HR rep isn’t here today.
Now my ASM is ‘following’ me on that platform. (notification about it, ~2hrs after deleting the comment)
