    The Taliban were hosting Al-Qaida, so there was some reason, if not to invade, then at least to make some incursions. Iraq, on the other hand, was one of the most resolute enemies of Al-Qaida. It turns out that secular totalitarians don’t like religious reactionary totalitarians. But Halliburton wanted all those contracts to rebuild the Iraqi oil industry after it had been bombed.
