Does anyone know where the MP3 Player effect comes from?

Because I have Boom Boom Boom by the Vengaboys playing in my head right now. Never misses a beat. Never drops a bar. It’s like I’m listening to it.

Yeah I get that a lot. Often it’s just a few bars, so it loops horrendously. It worse when I don’t really know the song well, recently I woke up with Spandau Ballet ‘Gold’ playing in my head. All day, I just kept hearing “Gold! (gold!)” repeating, didn’t know any other words, just a awful loop. That’s why I constantly have other music playing to distract.

        Non ADHD guy here.

I get music in my head too, but it completely takes over to the point that I can’t focus on what I’m trying to do and have to listen to the song once or twice to ‘orgasm’.

Thats how I understand my brain and that works for me. I suggest trying that sometime. But remember, non ADHD guy.

You’re thinking of Boom Boom Boom Boom. Boom Boom Boom was by the Outhere Brothers.

Oh, and AFAIK is basically that you remember a part of the song but not the end so your brain, pattern matching machine that it is, goes nuts trying to complete the half-noticed pattern. At least that’s one explanation for it that also explains why listening to the song fully can end an earworm.

I often find it entertaining to attempt to adjust/alter/influence said music by wondering loudly and indirectly toward its approximate location. Most times, I can get it to shift tempo or theme, but sometimes I’ve even had it jump genres! Hip-hop to symphonic to metal was especially fun, but I’m still working out the controls. 🤣😶‍🌫️
