The 79-year-old US President made the unusual admission during an appearance on Fox and Friends, just a day after hosting European leaders, including Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy, at the White House. Linking his legacy to global diplomacy, Trump remarked that if he succeeds in brokering peace between Ukraine and Russia, it might help secure him a place in the afterlife.

I guess he’s partially correct in that if we are to believe in a heaven, you don’t get there by raping women and fucking little girls. It raises the question of whether you can be lifelong rapist and pedophile and then do a good deed to erase the bad. As if it’s based on some kind of morality point system.

In Christian theology, it’s mostly explicitly not based on works but solely on baptism and 100% forgiveness of sin. Depending on how you interpret the theology repentance can be required though, not just asking for forgiveness.

That is intended for believers to do good things. That doesn’t change that forgiveness from sins can be requested at any time.

Requested, sure. My point being that it’s only a heretical minority of Pharisees, liars and hypocrites who believe that forgiveness will be granted if they only talk the talk and don’t walk the walk.

No that’s not correct at all. A large amount of protestant churches have the doctrine that salvation is through grace alone and not works. That was a big party of the Catholic protestant split. If you’re Catholic and disagree that’s fine, but it’s untrue to say that it is a fringe opinion.
