No, Russia doesn’t do the same thing. Putin has not jailed opposition parties, and his party has genuine public support as even as mainstream western media acknowledges.

They now tend to see the weakness of the Russian anti-war movement as a mark of complicity among the Russian public, and they are dismayed by Putin’s approval rating: independent pollsters have measured it at over 80% support more than two years into the invasion. Even President Volodymyr Zelensky and his team have all but given up on their hopes of a popular backlash in Russia against the war.

The approval rating Putin and his party have is also far higher than seen in any western democracy at this point. Nor is there blatant violation of the democratic process as was recently seen in Romania where an election was cancelled when the wrong. candidate looked like he was winning. If Russia doesn’t have fair elections, then neither does the west.

Russia allows access to most western media and has a more open media environment than Europe at this point where all Russian media is banned.

Putin literally killed one of his oppositions.

If you’re referring to Navalny, he never had more than 3% support in Russia. It’s also no surprise why. Meanwhile, even Ukrainians said that he died of natural causes. The actual opposition in Russia is KPRF that has around 30% support.

They conscript anyone suitable enough into the military.

Conscription has been standard in Russia since the days of USSR. Conscripts receive basic training, however they are not sent to fight in the war. This is done through volunteers signing up which is happening at a rate of around 30,000 a month.

If you don’t see how Russia is different then you’ve spent no time actually learning about Russia.
