I get that that’s still not great but, damn, that sounds nice.

It’s all about what you value. Healthcare and food for the poorest citizens? That’s waste. Private jets, overpriced office furniture and 5 star meals everyday? All necessary when what we value is transferring as much wealth as possible from the peasant class to the robber baron class.

Thing is, I’m a white guy and I know how these motherfuckers talk when they think they are in a safe space.
Same! I have the added pleasure of being a big, bearded, “straight-passing” gay man. I get to have really fun moments were the Republicans around me say despicable things about gays, I tell them I’m actually gay, then they trip all over themselves to explain how they’re actually totally cool with the gays. I call them out for being racist when that happens too. Making them uncomfortable by calmly shining light on their own words is one of my favorite group activities.

It’s all part of the left’s heinous GGI policies. No one is safe.

Look at all these violent leftists being outraged by senseless violence! When will their tyranny end!?! /s

I’m sure they’ll have some sort of sham trial to maintain plausible deniability for the more uppity newsmax viewers.

That type of discourse will follow you if you’re the one generating it. I’m not willing to have a conversation with someone that wants to twist everything I say and argue incessantly about which definition of a word, or which frame of reference we should use. You have no intellectual integrity. Now leave me alone please.

Yeah, you’re still misunderstanding everything and arguing semantics. Sure US democrats are right of center relative to EU politics, but we’re talking about US politics, so one would assume we would operate off of the Overton window in US politics as our frame of reference. But nah, whatever “wins” the argument I guess. I’m done talking to you. Bye bye.

You could have said “so many people” or “so many Democrats”. No, you singled out one group to target.
Democrats are leftists. -.-
It’s a spectrum. Left to right. There’s a lot of groups along that spectrum. “Leftist” is the broadest, most general possible term to use to refer to various people among left leaning idealogies.
So, which is it? Are Internet randoms representative of something, or not?
You, Internet stranger, as an individual, are not representative of anything other than your clear intent to misunderstand everything I try to communicate to you.
There is no such thing as anecdotal evidence.
Hard disagree. Anecdotal evidence is the terminology we use to describe trends we personally see. It’s colored by your perception, obviously, which is why you shouldn’t give it the same weight as actual data, but you can absolutely use it to inform your own opinions (which should also be influenced be real factual evidence/data). To write it off completely is pretty silly, IMO.
I don’t disagree with some of the sentiment you share, and I absolutely agree that Democrat leadership has been failing Americans for a long long time, on many issues, but you’re not going to convince me that a bunch of left leaning people abstaining to vote wasn’t them not being able to see the forest through the trees. Obviously genocide is bad, but it’s worse now that we have an authoritarian in charge who not only wants to support the genocide, but wants to get in on it, maybe open a new resort location after they clear out all the rubble and bodies.
I feel like I’m trying to explain something that’s very obvious, at least to me, and getting nowhere. I guess just keep ignoring the consequences of not voting against a wannabe dictator. Some people can’t be helped.

Where in my comment did I put the onus on progressives? I’m one of the progressives in that demographic, both in the way I voted and donated. I donated to every major progressive candidate in 2021. None of which live in my state. Not that I need to prove anything to you, internet random, just trying to point out how asinine your strawman is.
I said leftists because the left is a broad spectrum with varying beliefs. I’m fully aware that I’m basing my opinion on my own anecdotal evidence, but I’m not someone who only pays attention during the election and follows whatever the current group thought is. Most of the people I saw speaking out against voting were young leftists that were hung up on the US’ role in the genocide happening in Palestine, as if the US hasn’t been a major supporter of almost every imperialist/authoritarian country we’ve had dealings with basically since our inception… I wish people could be more realistic about this stuff. The choice was between more of the same neo-liberalist soft imperialism we’ve had since the early 90’s and outright fascism. By omitting their vote, a lot of young leftists chose outright fascism.

A lot of people are rightfully angry that so many leftists opted out of voting against fascism. How was allowing a dictator to take charge supposed to teach the DNC a lesson? They wanted to burn the house down and now it’s burning with most of us stuck inside. I think it’s fair to call them morons.

Only if you ask them for donations at every gathering

I used to game with a veteran who broke his back during his last tour. He could still get around, but had enough problems that he was on disability and spent most of his time gaming. He was also a huge Trump supporter who constantly talked about “welfare queens” and immigrants destroying the country… He also sold things online and didn’t report his income from that so he could keep his disability. A perfect example of the pot calling the kettle black, and I still wouldn’t take his disability away if it meant other people that rely on theirs also had theirs taken.

Those are two great points, and I completely agree with both of em. The 2A thing, in the US, is just one of many tools the billionaire class has used in their propaganda machine to push the Overton window the way they have around the world.

I completely understand were you’re coming from. I grew up in an incredibly disfunctional/abusive household and left at 15. I’ve been pretty much completely self-reliant since then. I was mostly self reliant before that. My parents idea of raising children was occasionally popping in to feed us or beat us (sometimes literally) into submission. I don’t need any external input to come to my own non-shitty conclusions on things because I’ve always had to think for myself.
However, I was also extremely lucky to find some good male role models in early adulthood that completely changed a lot of my life, mostly by exposing me to new ideas, skill sets, and opportunities. I think, while you and I have been shaped by hardships in a way that makes us mentally resilient enough to feel like we don’t need that mentorship, most young men don’t have that and they’re really floundering without guidance. I also think that this ultimately stems from homophobic tensions drilled into men of the last few generations that told us that platonic close relationships and brotherly affection between men is unacceptable.
So, while I agree that right wing ideology isn’t the default for young men who lack positive guidance, it’s a completely understandable outcome when the only available guidance they have, in a world that leaves young people with so many important/big questions, is a highly curated machine designed to lure them into a downward spiral towards far right/ fascist ideology.

The 2A crowd brought us fascism by voting for literally anyone who told them they could keep their AR’s. Now we have fascism-lite with our government disappearing people unlawfully with plain-clothed goon squads, and the 2A crowd is on the side of the fascists. In other words, they were the ones screaming about the importance of the people being able to protect themselves from the government, for decades, and now that we’re in a situation were people actually need to do that, they’re on the sidelines cheering on the authoritarian government. A lot of people like me aren’t surprised at all.

I think that’s likely all it was. But, I also think it’s a little too convenient that Trump is done with Elon now that the dirty work has been done to line up manufactured support for their billionaire tax break bill. At risk of getting a little conspiratorial, it’s possible Trumps team actually planned to use Elon to do all the worst damage so they could cut him loose, after the fact, then blame him for the worst of the fallout.

Bigger than that, I think Musk finally realized that Trump only holds up his end of deals as long as it’s advantageous for him. The rest of us have known that for as long as we’ve known Trump, but hey, being a totally legit super genius has its downsides, right? Anyways, Trump promised him a buffet of corruption, then got cold feet when he saw musks appetite. Even more than that, they’re two self-appointed kings of their own worlds, both with the emotional intelligence/maturity of a very traumatized teenager. With their levels of obvious insecurity, their arrangement was never going to work. I’m just glad their break up is as juicy as I thought it would be. :)
It’s more complicated than that. There’s massive gerrymandering, voter suppression, and straight up fraud. I won’t say the popular vote was stolen, because the investigation is ongoing, but there’s credible mounting evidence, unlike Trump’s claims following the 2020 election. Then, ultimately, the electoral college picks for us. We’re not governed for the people, by the people. The majority of Americans have to deal with this, while living in an end-stage-capitalist cage, and we get to read constant insults from ignorant people around the world who can’t see fascism for the cancer it is. It’s on the rise everywhere. Probably in your country as well. Are you responsible for the rise of fascism in your country, or is it the morons actually voting for it?
