Yeah the article is just rehashing a wapo article that’s linked, the original one is much clearer
The problem is there’s a very real risk the American people will view the move as illegitimate and prevent the land from being taken in the future, ie under a new admin that jails trump or something. The point of collateral is to reduce risks, not introduce new and exciting ones. Nobody is going to accept lower rates on this unless the aforementioned quid pro quo is real, in which case the deal is already illegal and the downside risks now include prison.
Yes this is idealistic, but the threat is still real and that’s how finance people calculate interest.

Tldw: last week Dev postulated this would be the first attempt to probe the courts because trans inmates are probably the least publicly visible group available for such an attack.
Blue marble is essentially an open source Google Earth desktop application. Idk if it’s exactly what you want but it’s not terrible.
OsmAnd is the same thing for Android and iOS and it’s absolutely wonderful.

Law is a human construct, it is essentially a consensus structure. You can hold up a piece of paper that says “I can do what I want” and maybe it’s even legitimate, but you still need to convince other people of that and our legal structure/precedent puts more emphasis on process than being efficient or fast.
In effect, the law has stopped trump from doing just about everything he wants to sans a few items. Every time he tries to do something he has to fight a bunch of people and that takes up some of his finite time and resources.
Just because he has friends in all the high places doesn’t mean everyone else will just jump into line and do exactly what he wants, the more people obstruct the less damage he can do.
I mean, he’s done a good enough job and I’d take him over literally anyone trump wants to appoint.
I’d argue he is. Politics and law aren’t deterministic, the rules are flexible and determined by how people interpret them. If it was actually a non issue he wouldn’t bother saying anything. He’s posturing and trying to make a case so that the admin is less likely to start that fight. Everyone has limited time and resources so making it seem like fucking with the Fed would take a lot of both lowers the odds they try.
Broadly, because the only way to get it was from other humans. Specifically, because a lot of other humans essentially went out of their way to give it to other people.
I hate that it needs to be said but love that they said it so plainly
Because it’s a prisoners dilemma. They don’t have the money to suddenly buy a billion Teslas and trillion solar panels so either they burn the coal they have because everyone else is too, or they just give up trying to become an advanced economy while everyone else keeps polluting.
In either case tens of millions of people die on the subcontinent, but in one of them at least they get to improve their economy.
Crazy opinion incoming: in the current climate ransomware is just pentesting equivalent of the “free” personal injury attorneys. If the pass the pentest, it’s free. If you fail, it’s crazy expensive. Either way it’s relatively benign security auditing that’s causing companies to be slightly less stupid about how they handle IT.
It’s not the ideal way of doing this, but it’s strangely having a positive impact and mitigating belligerent states abilities to conduct offensive cyber operations if things were to heat up.
It would be an insane mistake to underestimate that group. Like the other comments said, they are the Taliban and the military/police. However even if they somehow weren’t, it still means we have potentially tens of millions of domestic terrorists running around armed to the teeth and that’s not a great feeling.
Yeah I’m becoming increasingly nervous with the blue states systematically trying to disarm everyone and the red states are trying to whip everyone into a traitorous frenzy over the dumbest shit while arming everyone with a pulse.
Otoh, and this probably sounds absolutely fucking nuts, I’ve found republicans tend to understand “strength” and they are strangely respectful of liberal and leftist gun owners because that’s a dynamic they can comprehend. It’s not a good state of affairs but it’s better than them believing they can just run things because they’re the only ones with “strength”
Ok I hate all of this.
They’re not the same, but they’re kind of the same personality type. They frequently care about the same things, they just want very aggressive change to fix them. The issue is the path to get there and those are wildly different in terms of what the problem is and the underlying world view.

Installed it in k3s and then pulled up the Android app but all it does is say every single file is a duplicate and overload my notifications tray while not uploading anything
