If this was during an auto level, it’s my humble opinion that this is a manufacturer’s defect in the machine that caused the damage. There should be proper coding to ensure that any increase in sensor pressure by (delta p) halt that machine and that there should be a pressure offset in the sensor such that a loss of signal or anomalous zero reading or lack of reading is done prior to levelling to ensure that a sensor failure has not occurred. My XL freaks out if a fan isn’t spinning at the right speed, so they clearly know that a nominal operational check before the print starts is proper engineering design.
Of course you won’t get anywhere. Unfortunately, a lot of 3D print failures really are user error so I suspect that’s their default response and it takes them a good deal of proof to push them of that mark.

But it’s also possible some astroenthusiast did the math and emailed it to NASA, and whoever got that endo thought it would be cool and passed it to someone who could schedule the instrument. If you think about your geekiest friend and how they’d react if you sent them something truly unique about their geekdom that they could act on - well, that’s pretty much how every engr/scientist at NASA would react.
XL feels like using cheat codes.
If you print with incompatible filaments (materials which don’t bond/adhere) you can get cheap, nearly perfect breakaway supports. I’ve done some rocket parts on my PrusaXL and it’s certifiably magic.
You could say the same for a finite element model. A junior engineer with just 4 years of training can solve, explicitly, the deflection at the center of a slender, simple-simple beam of prismatic section and produce an exact (if slightly incorrect) answer. Building a FEM of the same can solve the problem and take longer (to make the model) with similar accuracy, both of which are good enough for design work.
Only a fool wouldn’t have a FEM around though, as it can solve problem that would take centuries for a human to solve. They may as well make a cartoon with the child digging a 3” hole in beach sand and then showing a backhoe making a jagged edged hole of the same size.
I have own a rift and Q1, 2, and 3 (plus some older, but polished, Cardboard products) but have NOT had a VP demo. The jump from fresnel to pancake lenses - for productivity purposes - is substantial and I expect the VP’s moderately higher resolution to be enough to make the headset actually productive (Q3 is close but still resolution handicapped). I expect the tight integration with OSX to be useful and, if I were (a) on OSX (b) didn’t already work on an 8K monitor and © was a digital nomad or had no dedicated office/room in which to work, I could see a use case for them. Having attempted to work in i(Pad)OS professionally as a remote platform, the standalone capabilities might be useful for a blogger or journalist but is utterly unsuitable for professional work, even less so without a dedicated keyboard and mouse/advanced multitouch track pad. Again, I’ve not used the VP hand-sensing for advance selection* but my expectation is that it is still in its infancy, even with (and perhaos hindered by) eye focus selection.
My hope is that $3500/pop will allow more research, more fine tuning, and advancing to vision limited resolution (Apple is still a factor of 4 short in pixel count, and a factor of 6+ short of my desktop monitor) for future headsets.
* multi-functional, 3D manipulation of, say, finite element model components or full building/industrial models in a program like Revit or multi-assembly models in Blender or Fusion360, where you have 4+ key modifiers plus 3 buttons and two scroll wheels for fine manipulation and hundreds of quick-key commands)

Which is great if I were storing it and only opening the box for a new roll. I expect to open the enclosure multiple times a day when I’m working with it and the moisture would quickly require recharging. Also, since the box will be accessible for two printers sharing the volume (I might be able to isolate them, but it makes the working space more difficult) and there will be two doors it will be impossible to create it at the budget level I’m considering. Management of moisture, in this case, is a more achievable engineering solution than perfect moisture isolation.

Doubtful. 20 years in Afghanistan bought us nothing. Half a century of meddling in the rest of central America has produced refugee waves. While we could, theoretically, try to assist the Mexican government with funds we’d probably fuck that up too.

I have 5 cmdrs in elite, I think. Only one is on Odyssey. One Horizons-end-game-all-but-carrier with 6B credits and a fleet, one stuck 15,000LY in the black, two with T-9s I made for commodity storage, and one new play through that’s mid-game (the odyssey one). I’ve mostly given up since I don’t have the free time / desire to grind for alien fights and the new on-foot and eco-bio stuff just doesn’t wow me.

Mostly. If your locality is served by Amtrak - and only a few dozen cities are out of the 3 million square miles of ConUS - then it can be somewhat convenient and cost effective if you plan your travel more than 2-3 months in advance. It’s about 2/3 the speed of car travel, but more comfortable, generally. If you buy tickets less than 3 weeks ahead the prices are about 4x what they are for booking at 3-6 months out. Also, unless you live in one of the 2-3 hub areas, trains run only once or twice a day. For comparison, Last time I checked it’s like £70 to go from London to Aberdeen and takes 7 hours and trains leave every hour or two. From Roanoke to New York - 80 miles closer than the UK route I know of - it’s $200, 9 hours, and only two trains run per day - the first departs at 6:20am, the second at 4:15p (and gets in around 2am). It’s only a 7.5 hour drive and $40-50 in gas to go from Roanoke to NYC, and it’s pretty easy to park outside the city and take a commuter train in.
Oh, and there’s no workable hub and spoke system due to the few trains and long travel times. My daughter is just 300 miles away at school and the city has a train stop. It’s a 5 hour drive one way. It takes two days and 3 train changes to get from her city to the closest station to me, about a 45 minute drive away. It’s ridiculous.
And, unlike engineers in manufacturing whose deep-pocket corporations bought an exemption, Engineers in the A/E/C field are licensed. And if you screw up you can lose your ability to work in your field…forever.
