politics @lemmy.world•White House Scrambles to Explain Trump’s Public Glitches as He Turns 80
44·13 days ago"You don’t have to wish me a happy birthday, because I’m not happy about that birthday. It’s a number that I never thought really too much about. It’s not a number I like, but I’m here nonetheless.” - a giant orange human-shaped piece of feces
he clearly didnt expect to live this long, which explains his complete lack of planning in anything whatsoever

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is this something I should escalate at my workplace?
6·13 days agoyou should always voice your pain points to your manager. its your manager you gives you the authority to enforce your boundaries, and then you will have to continue to broadcast them (your boundaries) in those environments. having worked with medical staff, i understand they are challenging personalities. doctors are sometimes the worst people.
what you let happen to you becomes expected of you.
ask your manager if you can leave the immediate area ( or some other mitigation) for achieving your 30 minute break.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why bother with jellyfin, arr stack and everything else if free streaming services exist?
831·13 days agoim a simple user
I don’t really like watching things
then this shit aint for you. just because you can do something doesnt mean you have to want to do it.
im old and have been doing this for almost 30 years. long before jellyfin; my kids never suffered commercials, never had to worry about some streaming service going up or down. they never had to care whether some source had the show they wanted. even when away from home, they were streaming my shit.
my very large curated collection may be less random than some iptv streams, but sure as fuck is more reliable, dependable, quality controlled and well, i dont even need to have fucking internet access for my shit (my library) to work for me.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Email ownership, I give up.
131·20 days agoi get it. i ran my own server for 15 years… and i stopped ~ 8 years ago. it was just too annoying between the spam filtering and -todays-new-security-enhancement-
email is the one service im happy to pay someone to do… from a bunker in switzerland. google not required.
…but you cant not use email and function in the technological world of today. email isnt about communication any longer. its about security and authentication.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do you explain protocol to a 5 year old ?
21·21 days agoyou can replace the word ‘protocol’ with ‘set of rules’ in almost any context and it still makes sense.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What is the deal with IPv6?
42·1 month agoIt’s basically “we/I don’t see any short-term benefit from it, it causes some setup work, and it is not important because everything still works”.
this is it and why the u.s. is such garbage. everything is all about the next quarter bottom line. there is zero long term planning, "if it aint broke, dont fix it’ is freakin king… at least at the small business level… which is most of them!

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What is the deal with IPv6?
1·1 month agobut the analogy fails to scale. you cant nat gasoline
v6 solves a problem no one seems to have yet, and so no one is buying into. money talks and v4 isnt financially painful.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What is the deal with IPv6?
8·1 month agohow much labor is it going to cost to migrate and when will I break even? Surely my sysadmin’s time is better spent on things like security hardening?
this is the reason right here.
theres literally no economic pressure for last mile users to give a shit about v6. v4 is so mature (and really the nat ecosystem around it) that its just dirt simple to get basic or crazy shit running quickly. v6? ha
