  • yeah in europe (obviosly it varies a lot cross-country and rural/urban) but lots of places with high safety standards , and high emissions taxes. Still lots of small cars around .
Mostly due to parking in big-dense-cities though probably.

US does come out badly on deaths per billion pax-km: 8 ish vs 3-5 for most euro countries

So on the face of it small cars dont sem to correlate - but these data look a bit hodge podge, so not sure to read too much into it without knowing the underlying sources.

Other factors like the “stroad” thing might be an issue.
And a lot of European municipalities give the elderly free public transport, and have ok bus service, so many doddery old coots have a viable option.

I remember that southpark episode about senior drivers, with the jaws music . . .
Maybe not as funny when you look at that US death rate. To quoe Father Maxi: “No god needs complex irony and subtle farcical twists that seem macabre to you and me, all that we can hope for is that god got his laughs . . .”

  • As i understand it it (somewhere between barely and not at all) the idea is not that It’s “expanding” in the sense of a balloon inflating into the space around it.
    Its more stretching internally.

So the distance (or time it would take at constant speed) between any 2 points is geting bigger.
You could maybe also say it’d take more energy to move between the points in a set time.

There’s probably nothing outside, but the distances inside get longer.

It’s probably something to go with gravity, momentum and entropy. The actual concept of “distance” between things might not be what we think.

But all these theories give rise to the concet of large amounts ob unobserved ‘dark’ mattter and evergy, so the actual basis of currently observable fact (i.e. energy / mass) is a small fraction of what is needed for these theories to work.

  • Those 2 Israelis were probably supporting hamas and spreading hamas propaganda and eating jewish babies. why else would they be in gaza? Real journalists can get all the evidence they need sitting in Tel Aviv to do honest unbiased journalism. They shoudl be working on articles about all the nice upcoming new beachfront luxury properly development opportunity in south-west israel.
It’s anti-semetic to fall for these journalist costumes being worn by all these hamas agents - the world should be grateful it is now safe from their lies and suicide bombs.

Yes, I can live without youtube I survived the 1980s and 1990s - I’m not saying my life is or was “meaningful” though - that’ll be discernable if the maggots enjoy their dinner whenever the time comes.

I also think there were at least a few generations of humans before that, some of whom may think they led at least slightly meaningful lives.

I don’t think youtube makes anyone’s life more or less “meaningful”, it’s just a way to pass the time - but that’s just my opinion on carbon-shuffling in general. If you accept peoples own objectives instead of mine, then youtube might help them learn stuff - but even then I’d look to measure the content of their consequent actions, much more than learning in abstract. They’ve still got to put their new knowledge together with skills , practice and the real world circumstances to before anyting “meaningful” happens - and that’s due as much to their hard work as much as to their teacher.

But I do prefer to watch a few people’s videos on there as entertainment, only a few of them post on that p2p thing “lbry” or whatever so i dont use that. I will continue to watch youtube videos given the choice, and not having somethign better to do, until those people move their videos to somewhere else.

I’ve recently been finding out that freetube client removes much of the front end unpleasantness.

  • is the usb A high power still limited to 5V?
This means it’d need high current ratings (and heat dissipation) to deliver higher power at that voltage.

compare to say usb-C that can negotiate up to something like 20V, if all links allow it.
this means your usb-c can offer higher power with lower current rated components…

For basic solidstate power supply doubling the V ratings from say 6V to 12V will likely be cheaper than doubling Amp ratings from say 3A to 6A.
but for sure in a laptop managing the heat will be a consideration.

Maybe theres a version of USBA that can use the data lines to negotiate power - in which case this would be non-standard.

They should just state peak and continuous V, A and W for each port, and also for the set of ports as a whole. maybe in different input/battery scenarios. I assume a third party, or home gamer could create their own plug in module to do whatver, but it’d be helpful for them to know the electrical ratings.

  • Self bagging only pretty much where i live.
The cashiers at lidl are so fast it’s hard to keep up.
I just stuff everything in fast as possible trying to maximise damage; this can also save on chewing time later.

But I only have to carry it as far as my bicycle - and I do sometimes need to fish out and reorganize heavy stuff at that point to keep the pain-ears vaguely balanced.

Though it is quite fun to try with 6-7 litres of liquids on one side and 2 carrots and a lettuce on the other.
If it’s not too windy I’d just do that - shopping is boring.

If I was walking farther I’d take a big rucksack and yeah I’d probably pack it more systematically.

I can understand car users not bothering to organise though.
Unless you’re driving 100km through the desert and think anything frozen wil melt.
