All pets were at one time wildlife. Killing one to save it… wow.
I’d like to encourage the author of of this to leave the line- and paragraph- breaks in the source text. This is impossible to read as is.
A new Linux OS may emit unfamiliar sounds if some network app is still running and set to use them for notifications. Quitting the (sound-making) app(s) and/or the network connection will can avoid that problem. Of course you can just turn the sound volume all the way down.
Suspended OSs may sometimes ‘wake up for no reason’ if some vibration causes the mouse, for example, to jiggle around enough.
Logging out of your user account before suspending/sleeping the machine will stop that stuff without having to dig thru settings. Faster to log back in than to reboot.
Thanks for reminding me of a great film I saw in theatres long ago… I was at a con once and heard Barry (spouse and I both liked ‘Enemy’) and bought his Workshop book … good to see he’s still kicking …
and thanks too for hooking me up with Feral Historian’s stuff (like his style) which I might never have found otherwise…
This is the ongoing story of Microsoft since it started.
Wow. I can’t believe it took me so long to learn about that. And no tour needed. Interesting, thanks!
‘Theeeere once was a girl from Nantucket’ … well, sort of works.
Now for the next test: 3 identical new styluses responses are profiled. Now 3 identical TTs, play Marcus Family vs. Metallica vs Lou Reed’s Metal Machine Music.
After 100 hours compare stylus profiles to originals. Repeat after 1000 hours. Also visit your shrink before and after for a comparitive sanity test.
GOSH I’d like to see that be 2 times longer, and have some price-ranges.
Powerful message. “Brought to you by DHHS, National Cigarette Foundation, Department of Education, Cigs4Kidz, and Viewers Like You.”
Don’t remember any PSA’s like that back from when they were doing atmospheric testing of atom bombs down in Nevada for weeks on end. But they weren’t planning on smoking them all the way.
Different strokes! esp. depending on which orbit you’re in.
Always have a good time when I run into this channel. Gotta be scary for drummers, but I’m not, maybe that’s it!
Yeah! Did that once, many years back. took a couple weeks. Used a ripper program that went out on the net and got all the metadata, saved to a HD (now on the third one). Put the CDs in Logic cases (no-wear), recycled the jewelboxes.
Over time, started to drop album folders into VLC, save the playlists, at ur fingertips.
Wow, that’s of Veritasium’s best stories - a LOT of work went into that. (And he was ignored because he didn’t have a PhD!) Very enjoyable … thanks!
It took many generations to be able to put the truth out there like this. Over and over until people recognize that -openly- living the truth, in a world where lying is so easy, is the definition of courage. And of real freedom.
Hmmm. I never learned most of this in high school. Hmmm. I wonder if that might have helped understand the harder stuff later… changed how I do stuff. But hey, I did learn how to make napkin holders and bird houses.
Oh well, I did eventually learn a lot of it. The slow and hard way. And Carlin helped.

No cavalry … and no calvary either … is going to ride over the hilltop and save us. We can only keep healthy, keep learning and keep doing the best we can for each other. Yeah, it matters today. And it’s always today.
