    An employer might say this to their employees but it is false. You are not required to work without pay. You can stop working when the payment stops and claim unemployment. You cannot be fired for doing this, either. Not then, and not later for some other trivial thing. It will be super easy to show it’s retaliatory. You can sue for lost wages when this is the case for your separation.

    Many reading this are sucked into a fucking doom spiral and will think “yeah, that’ll never work.” You’re unequivocally incorrect. And if it happens at a place of work rather than to an individual, the case is beyond a fucking slam dunk. Just get like 3 of you to contact a law firm for a class action against the employer, then get every employee you can on board. This would be retirement money levels of settlement. No question. It is egregious and indefensible. The US govt will lose that case every time. Employment lawyers win these cases literally every day. One this big is their wettest fucking dream.
