I’m just trying to do my job in the system I’m in friend.
I know I’m gonna get flamed for this, but here goes.
I have vibe coded a system at work that has enabled me to deliver value in a fraction of the time I expected. My verification steps have been around whether it does the things I told it I wanted it to do. I’m not maintaining the syntax and I’m not expecting anyone else to. Ever.
That said, our teams that deliver products that touch customer data or financial records…they shouldnt (and dont) engineer this way. The tech isnt there (yet).
Let the flaming commence.
Got a link? I’d love to get me one of those

this quirkiness doesn’t materialise in real world applications on any scale that makes it harder to deal with than the alternatives.

My first foray into doing anything remotely close to programming was substituting things in other people’s TCL scripts. I had no idea what I was doing…but i was somehow getting results.
I curently have no idea how this person did this, and so as a bare minimum id have to learn that in order to know where to start replacing keywords. Maybe it’s completely trivial, but the fact remains I do not know and so I would have to learn something.
So yes, even if they’re “just replacing keywords” they’re still learning something. Even if you consider it trivial or mundane.

I dont get the “server” vs “individual” support levels? Im an individual and I have a server…but presumably everyone buying immich has a server? Otherwise it’s pointless? Or is it expected that I buy a server package, plus an individual package for each and every user?
I know it’s OSS and so any and all donations are voluntary - just the naming here confuses me.

The other day a dude was using his phone on speaker in the gym. Just sat there on the machine casually having a conversation on the phone and not doing a whole lot of working out.
I asked him if he could use the phone normally and made the “hand to face” gesture and he just mumbled a “yeah” and took it off speaker.
Now if he had considered my request outlandish, presumably there would have been a little friction in this exchange? But no…he knew exactly what he was doing, why it was annoying, and immediately how to remedy it.
Why the fuck are people using speakerphone instead of the God damn normal speaker to have their conversations? They know it’s annoying.

I’m curious as to whether this is lack of experience, knowledge or imagination. Maybe all 3.

Goodness gracious your responses to these Russian trolls are entertaining, keep it up!

Fuck off, Russian bot

So can Russia

I have a pi4 and been very happy with the dimensions and low power usage. What could I get for the same price and power use?
Genuine question. Im looking at a pi5 right now.

Care to elaborate? What’s wrong with “hosting” on a rpi?

Thanks for the tip!

I always tell passengers where the manual lever is, and where the break glass hammer is. What’s the point in having them if only 1 of you knows the location?
This comment made me learn. Thank you.

You sound about as self aware as the adults they’re referring to.

No, they’re basically saying the same as the summary.
Honestly im proud of the problems I’m able to solve today now that I can use AI to do it so quickly.
Even when I stop and manually check all the work the AI has done, it’s still much faster and I’m having to rely on my knowledge and experience to do so. When I’m vibe coding I’m relying on that same knowledge and experience to architect the solution rather than deliver it.
Ive seen the other side- the colleagues who all of a sudden think theyre engineers and are unknowingly exposing critical commercial data to our competitors. That side is scary…and gives me hope that my role while changing, is far from dead.
Also I have hobbies - i only work to pay for them. If “the man” wants to pay me to spend tokens…fine by me. I’ll be here to clean it up if it all goes wrong.
