Oh I’m not disagreeing with you there. In this case, they were being brought in as a defendant for a wrongful death case. The probably realized there was some potential PR damage from considering invoking the Disney+ terms (rightfully so, fuck them), but I’m sure they weighed that against the liability of the wrongful death suit.

In the case of the video, I’d be surprised if they went after Robert, because I don’t see them gaining more from this case than they would lose in publicity. I could be wrong though, perhaps we’ll see!

Getting into a legal battle with an immensely popular YouTuber would probably cost them a lot more in bad publicity than they would reasonably make from a lawsuit. I guarantee someone at Disney is doing or already has done the calculations.

The “move fast and break things” mantra of silicon valley is bad enough when you aren’t talking about breaking a goddamn nuclear reactor.

The speed at which we’re descending into the dark enlightenment period is beyond alarming.

In September of last year, the podcast Behind the Bastards did a two part series on right wing blogger Curtis Yarvin, his connections to Peter Theil, and his influence on JD Vance. I highly recommend these episodes for anyone who wants to know where this is all headed.

Yarvin has, for years, pushed the notion of RAGE (retire all government employees), and his dark enlightenment movement centers on dismantling democracy and installing a neo-feudalistic system of government in which oligarchs rule as kings.

This is not some crazy new proposal that will be ignored by the people in power. This is the endgame. The oligarchs and right wing fascists Trump has surrounded himself with have been pushing this for years, just waiting for their moment.

If you don’t think this is a big deal, then you probably won’t realize until it’s too late.

The whole aim of the GOP is to benefit rich people. They’re bought and paid for by the 1%. All of their culture war fear mongering is set up as a distraction from the fact that we’re losing the class war.

I think I get where you’re coming from: if the cart wrangler is paid by the hour, what do they care? I’ll offer a counter point.

Have you worked in retail? You’re assuming the person collecting your wayward cart doesn’t have an a-hole middle manager breathing down their neck asking them why it’s taking so long to bring in the carts. That lovely stroll in the sun could be a write up for someone who is just trying to get by.

I don’t think you’re off base with your intentions. I’m all for sticking it to faceless corporations, but I wouldn’t want to do that at the potential expense of someone’s livelihood.
