  • take all this with a grain of salt

if you don’t need to lose weight immediately for health reasons, focus less on weight loss and more on making healthy habits feel natural

regarding eating, i’d say the following are essential:

    • avoid getting hungry
    • food should be as tasty as possible. you have to actually like what you’re eating
    • no forbidden food. do not try to take anything away from your diet
    • absolutely NO strict rules in general. they’re bad enough for neurotypicals, so they’re fatal to us
    • introduce healthy food you like. if you can, start with fruits, lots of fruits. fruits are the easiest kind of tasty healthy food
    • try to eat on time as much as possible. kind of a corollary of “avoid getting hungry”
    • have go-to foods you can eat at each meal/whenever you get hungry without thinking. one of mine is strawberry smoothie
    • don’t eat anything you don’t like. it doesn’t matter how healthy it is, if you hate it, it’s bad for you. there’s plenty of healthy food out there
    • give a chance to foods you don’t like too much once in a while. maybe you’ll end up liking them eventually, maybe not. just try and you’ll find out
    • above all else, make any of these changes incrementally. the point is building solid habits, not having a solid diet from the get go

any of these follow from: eating is one of the most important things in our life; never make yourself feel bad while trying to get healthy.

    good luck

  • is that actually necessary? i used to take ritalin everyday and i don’t remember being advised to take breaks by any of my psychiatrists

also, in my experience, ritalin was basically an on/off switch. i was fine when i took it, but whenever i had to stop taking it for any reason (e.g. a two-week-long ritalin shortage in the pharmacies around me) i felt just like before (i.e. like shit)

    but ymmv as always

  • i didn’t read the entire post and likely won’t, but this caught my eye

making task lists so that I can see everything and make sure it gets done

this kind of commitment might be getting in the your way of getting anything done. it might sound paradoxical, but you need to fully accept and embrace your limitations, including not being able to get done what you set out to get done. instead of trying to do what you “need” to do, focus on just doing what you can do and accept that everything else will not get done. which might mean that you might fail to do important tasks, but that’s a better alternative than getting nothing done

having adhd, especially if you’re unmedicated, means you’re constantly mitigating the consequences of not completing essential, periodic tasks. half your efforts will go towards paying interest (metaphorically and literally). this might sound bleak, but once you truly understand and fully accept that, it will be easier to cope with not being able to do everything you need to do and celebrate whatever you are able to. then you will be able to make the most out of your efforts with the least amount of suffering possible

(if you can, delegate tasks you have the most trouble with to people who are willing to help and fully understand what having adhd means)

also, whatever method you use to manage your tasks, it is crucial to make it as simple as possible and make it auxiliary instead of binding. in my case, what i found to help recently are post-it notes. in your case, it might be something else

    good luck!

  • as a brazilian, i have a few ideas as to why latam participation in the survey was so low and i don’t think it has much to do with low linux usage

    1. lemmy isn’t very popular in brazil yet, even inside the brazilian fediverse. my current instance is a few months old and it is one of the first brazilian lemmy instances

    2. unlike europeans, the overwhelming majority of brazilians is monolingual. only 5% of brazilians have any level of english knowledge and 1% are proficient. even if lemmy was popular in brazil, most people wouldn’t even see the survey anyway

i don’t know for sure about the rest of latam (and the global south for that matter), but I’m willing to bet both of these points apply
