  • No, but most replacement parts are semi universal parts that can be adjusted to fit the vast majority. However you need to know what toilet you have as each almost universal part doesn’t fit something another one will. Odds are you have a common toilet that any universal part fits - but there are toilets that are not compatible ith anything.

before doing anything though should you replace the whole thing is a question worth asking. do you prefer a round or engladed bowl; what about the height; maybe you want one without stains; or a low water use version that works? It wouldn’t cost much more to replace the whole thing with one that fits you better.

  • Every since the end of WWII there has regularly been things happening that felt like we were steering towards WWIII. You have to learn to live your life, you have no idea in advance what will actually start WWIII. There are of course plenty of signs but you don’t know until after WWIII is over what were important. Even WWII when the first shots were fired did not have to become a world war, things just escalated in ways that you couldn’t be sure at the time they would.

Don’t real the above as you shouldn’t work for peace, or that you shouldn’t prepare for WWIII. You should be doing both at the same time. The cost of peace sometimes higher than the costs of war - and war is expensive! (peace can sometimes only be had at the cost of becoming a slave - I’d rather my kids die in war than become slaves)

  • A tree is a terrible representation since people will appear in more than one place on it. brother sisters marriages (which did happen) tend to produce deformed kids, but first cousins have good odds for normal kids. By third cousin odds of genetic issues was close enough to zero, but those kids will have six great great grand parents not the mathematical eight. I didn’t mention half siblings but that happens too and a couple generations below could marry safely.

the above isn’t just theoretical. Before modern transport you often lived and married in the same village for many generations. It would often be impossible to find anyone to have kids with that wasn’t at least sixth cousins from more than one path.

  • We don’t need a growing population, but it can’t shrink fast. We can probably even handle a slow shrinking, but a birth rate of .6 (which some countries are getting to) is low enough to be a real problem. Stable population needs a birthrate of a bit over 2 (1 child for every adult, and a few extra to account for accidents - how much extra depends on factors like how good your medical care is).

Of course the above is statistics. Some people have terrible genetics and shouldn’t have kids. Many people would be terrible parents (but few are willing to admit it is them - ironically many who will admit it would be good parents). And raising kids is takes a lot of effort (it isn’t as expensive as those without kids think, but it does take a lot of time) - all good parents have to give up a ton of things they currently do (in countries with the worst birth rates this is often working too many hours, but even countries with reasonable working hours are seeing concerningly low birth rates) .

  • It is a proxy for don’t use too much on the busy towers. In small towns it doesn’t matter, but if you are in a downtown the tower will have many people connecting to it and the radio frequencies are shared. By putting a limit on everyone they force better sharing of that limited bandwidth. The limit is very large - far more that than the large abusers will use alone, but in a dense areas it is less than the common person will use all at once.

Tmoblie has (or had?) a binge on plan - if you used video (which we quickly figured out meant low quality - but probably good enough for a tiny phone screen) or audio you were using a lot of data, but it was consistent all day and so they didn’t have to count it - if the tower doesn’t have enough bandwidth for everyone on the first day of the month they have to fix that. That is the real worry: the tower running out of bandwidth on the first day of the month.

  • I said check out his book, not follow his patterns. There are some great ideas in this build, but also some things Gingery did better - and since Gingery explained why he did a lot of things like he did you will likely in turn be able to adapt the good ideas to this build. The way Gingery does the head stock is much better than this cast in place option for example. Combine the two and you will get better results.

BTW, if you are serious about building a lathe I’d recommend epoxy-granite not concrete or castings. Something more to research before building (or maybe just stop someplace and build - your choice)
