I really don’t mind them capitalizing on this, the echo chamber just makes it super annoying.

I love my media library and I just couldn’t stand waiting for the rolling boil. I’ve been using Adobe products since 1999. I recognize an abusive relationship when I see it.
You are more concerned with people’s relationship with Plex than the people actually using it. I can’t speak for free tier users, but lifetime pass holders have yet to be affected by changes in how Plex does business. Until that changes, can you please stop acting like the sky is falling?

The problem is not how ‘this feature is there", but how long until "this feature is now $X.XX’.
Would be lovely if people could shut up about things that haven’t happened yet. Plex isn’t climate change, I’ll switch when it starts inconveniencing me.
It wouldn’t really, but you should already see “the writing on the wall”. Your own collections aren’t prioritized, and who knows what they’ll do next - putting ads into your own personal collections maybe?
A lot of people are too hung up on what could happen, rather than what is happening. I don’t see anything other than my own media since Plex can remember that that’s how I want to use it. In daily use I don’t see any of their additional attempts to generate income. I can share with anyone easily and not expect them to mess with any VPN or other tricks to connect remotely, and neither do I have to set any of that up.
It’s nice that there are good alternatives, but none of them are a complete replacement for Plex. Jellyfin users on lemmy are just in a very special bubble within a bubble.

Let me give you a different starting point: why would it be better if the collapse/downfall of the USA happened more slowly?
I didn’t claim that Democrats are the salvation. I have no suggestions on fixing your political system. Just pointing out the fact that Trump was elected. Twice. So this goes even deeper than politicians and their cronies - it’s a huge part of the population that’s rotten along with them.
Another reason is that it’s not like there was a coup and the population is being held hostage. They voted for this. Twice.
