  • wanted to implement something like that with my 1920R UPS for my rack but haven’t found the time to commit to antiquated hardware.

Was enough of a hassle dealing with the expired SSL certs on the management card yet getting software running on one of my machines to communicate with the UPS.

Honestly you should just bypass dells management software and use NUT. It supports your UPS’s management card if you enable SNMP or you can bypass it all together and just run off of the USB/serial.

All things considered my two servers chilling chew around 60w on average, not taking into account my POE cameras or other devices. The UPS should run for over a day without getting close to draining its batteries (have a half populated ebm too).

I’m pretty surprised I can run my whole network for an hour off of my 1500va UPS with three switches and a handful of POE devices. I’m still thinking about replacing it with a rack mount unit so i can lock it inside my rack as I’ve been having issues with unauthorized people messing with it.

  • Ubiquiti unifi: pretty preformant while being dead simple to set up. No licensing fees but upfront price is steep. If you really get into networking you will find their hardware and software stack limiting especially if you need speeds greater than 25 gigabit.

Mikrotik: single handedly the best value out there. Their OSes can be confusing at times and you may need some CLI skills to do everything but it’s a good learning platform.

Opensense: highly flexible where you can tailor your experience to exactly what you need. If you are the type of person who wants all of the bells and whistle along with fine granulated controls this is your option.

Openwrt: a good choice if you already own a supported device but I personally wouldn’t go out and buy hardware for openwrt when opnsense is a better option.

Cisco: there are two types of people who buy Cisco, those who are obtaining their CCNA and those who have their CCNA.

tp-link omada: directly marketed as a ubiquiti unifi competitor but cheaper. Being a new line of products it’s not really time tested. I’ve heard very polarizing opinions on them so your milage may vary.

meraki: Cisco’s other brand. Sometimes you can get their hardware for free because they make all of their money off of the licensing fees.

  • TSA literally says on their own website that they are not looking for drugs and will only report it to the police if it’s blatant.

TSA’s screening procedures are focused on security and are designed to detect potential threats to aviation and passengers. Accordingly, TSA security officers do not search for marijuana or other illegal drugs, but if any illegal substance is discovered during security screening, TSA will refer the matter to a law enforcement officer.

  • But the DDoS protection and attack prevention is mostly snake-oil for most people.

I wouldn’t say it’s snake oil for most people because of how cheap it costs to execute a DDoS attack, all it takes is for you to piss off one person for it to be worth it. Although you do not have to use cloudflare there are plenty of other protection services out there.

And a side note, I can’t believe how hard it is to find statistics on how many DDoS attacks have happened that’s not from someone with a vested interest in the matter. I’d figure the FBI/IC3 or CISA would have better statistics on the matter.

  • I’m pretty sure that spare tire is only there for the joke. With off roading tires that large they are almost definitely bead lock tires which can be ran at very low PSI without risk of the tire departing the rim. On top of that the tread is much thicker meaning punctures have to go deeper before they cause problems and most of the time came be fixed by simple plugs.

Not to mention the logistics of changing a spare on a tire of that size. A bottle jack is completely out of the question and you wouldn’t be able to use a farm jack safety with the body that high. Even if you could how are you going to get that wheel onto the studs when it weighs over 300Lb?

  • OP is mostly correct, the construction grade boards the home centers sell are going to have some level of warping. If you don’t want to deal with that you need to go to an actual lumber store. There’s one in most cities. In Seattle (well Ballard…) Limback Lumber is a great place to visit.

  • A VPN is only a single end point just like your ISP meaning you are only shifting the problem to your VPN provider who admittedly is more trustworthy than your ISP but you are still putting an immense amount of trust into a single point of failure.

If you truly want to hide from your ISP or really anyone, your only options are to use TOR or I2P where your traffic is encrypted and tumbled through multiple servers.

  • It’s not just driving a off road capable vehicle exclusively on road but mainly installing modifications that look like it would increase the vehicles off roading capabilities but in reality hinder it. Take the lift on the truck i posted above, it has a long travel suspension which when installed correctly would vastly improve the trucks ability to handle trails at high speeds however because they chose height over suspension travel they’ve created a truck with none of the benefits of a long travel suspension with a vastly increased risk of rolling over. They are trying to cosplay as a monster truck without understanding that a monster truck has tires that are almost as wide as they are tall for stability which you physically cannot do on a road legal truck without it being two or three lanes wide.

    **in a non ADHD brain

Stimulates are not as addictive for people suffering from ADHD because it physically effects us differently. If you have ADHD then you have issues with negatively skewed dopamine responses and stimulates help by inhibiting the reuptake of dopamine causing the dopamaturgic response to seem more powerful than what it is (because again I can’t stress this enough the dopamine response does not function correctly) (source)

I can deal with calling to get a new prescription every month but all the other bullshit that comes with my medication being a controlled substance is what I fucking hate. Oh we are sorry but your prescription is out of stock because the DEA is worried about diversion… Oh and don’t call other pharmacies because you are shopping pharmacies and now we are going to flag you…
