Add in the fact that you don’t really feel the power and inspiration in a group of like minded souls until you are face to face and in the mix with them. There’s something almost tangible and invigorating about that experience that online communication just can’t replicate.
I weighed several responses to your reply, and even tried a few out before backtracking, more so for the benefit of the other readers, but I think I will settle on this:
I agree with the spirit of your response. I’ve heard variations of my own post for years, before there was an actual public Internet, on BBS and the like.
And I have made the same reply as you, almost word for word, to them.
While well intentioned, I realize now that the exasperated and cynical nature that results from watching the pot boil for years and yet the frogs still aren’t jumping out, makes my responses to others sound abrasive and arrogant.
From this point forward, when ever I see people waking up to the shit storm that hasn’t even happened in full force yet, I am going to be gentle and encouraging with them.
And remind people that the strength to carry on in a challenging world comes from investing and developing the community, the friends, family and neighbors, around us.

Usually somebody would come busting through the front gate yelling “THE POLICE ARE HERE! DA GONNA BEAT YO ASS!!!” and everybody would take off running.
No. But I wasn’t doing anything particularly complex, just a LAMP stack server for some game forums. Think I had a Dell desktop. Was a dishwasher at the time.
Took a few days fumbling through tutorials but I eventually got it up and running. Repeated that a few times over the years, once to host a blog, stuff like that.
Would like to get into it again but all I have now is a tablet.

For real. I have to travel often for work, which means driving through big cities, little towns and the countryside. If someone never got on the internet, they’d never think things are like the way they sound online. Especially in the rural areas but even in most areas in towns. Houses are all within 50 years of age, all the cars and trucks are new. Crops are growing, streets are being worked on, society is humming right along. Average people seem to be doing just fine.
There’s definitely a corrosion in the fabric of society but when people wonder how the “other side” can vote the way they do, especially in light of xyz, they don’t realize that for many folks their perception of the current state of events is significantly reinforced by their day to day living, which is going reasonably well.
Is it going to stay that way? Maybe. Probably not. But you can’t convince people who are doing well that they need to change their outlook for some imagined future.
I had that same experience, too, many years ago doing the anti-depressant circuit.

As for me, a lot of changes. Age being a big culprit for a lot of them. Since I posted last it hasn’t happened again. I’ve just chalked it up to being tired, stressed, and trying to make something happen my mind wasn’t really into at the moment.
Yeah, your experience more accurately reflects the term. I should have used the term ‘ejaculatory anhedonia’ or maybe a more generalized ‘orgasmic anhedonia’ but I couldn’t find a consensus on the terms online.
Of course, there’s probably a big difference between a pathological condition of being aroused, performing the sex acts in earnest, but not receiving pleasure from it and just having lousy sex you’re not into with partners who aren’t good at it. Or, like you said, you just can’t get there because the mental aspect is lacking.
Though I did note that, like men, there is evidence of women experiencing orgasms without pleasure, but it’s harder to observe. Sounds like a cop out to me. Sure it’s easy to spot some dude’s dribble, but you could easily measure vaginal contractions with a device.
The magic one for sure. I have no doubt that I would not only recover my memories of past lives but would ascend to much greater heights, perhaps grasping immortality itself.
