The Sonic drowning soundtrack will wake me out of a dead fucking sleep. That’s what I use for alarms that I can’t afford to sleep through.
Just a dude who believes in the Fediverse over standard Social Media sites! I’m a fan of horror, cute animals, and handsome lads.

As a casual user of Linux (no strong inclination or skill in coding), I tend to veer towards distros that minimize the Terminal usage in favor of graphical user interfaces for accomplishing most changes. Modern Linux distros are a lot friendlier in terms of installing Software from a distro store and graphic drivers via a graphical interface. You won’t ever fully be able to eliminate the terminal usage, as it’s inevitable for certain tasks like adding PPAs on Ubuntu for example. It was honestly word salad for me during my first foray into the Linux world; but now I have a basic understanding of the Linux kernel and how it functions on a very surface level. I know enough to string commands together and understand the reason why it’s necessary to do things in a certain order.
I’m not sure if you’d have a good time with Linux, I’m hesitant to tell you to take the plunge because you will have to faff around with the terminal and use commands at times to accomplish certain things. That requires both focus and patience, something which is naturally difficult for those with ADHD (unless a hyperfixation is quite strong). I’d give yourself time to think about switching for a while, ultimately you might be better sticking with the current OS that you’re using.
He feels threatened by the work of the COSMIC DE as this DE will basically offer a smoother end user experience without the caveats of other DEs. Once it is out of it’s Alpha to Stable development cycle, of course. COSMIC will be at a big advantage of not having any legacy code holding it back, and will purposefully avoid a lot of the annoyances of current DEs on the scene. I’ll let the System 76 team cook before passing any solid judgements on COSMIC. There are a few years yet before COSMIC becomes something amazing (I’m just guessing, take this with a grain of salt).
Standard Notes, Firefox, novelWriter are the ones I rely on the most for my daily needs.
I haven’t specifically seen anyone go off the rails when it comes to emoji usage on Lemmy; I can only comment on my particular feelings about emoji: Like any tool, emoji can be used in ways which are confusing. However, the value of these little images conveying additional context to written text is useful. There is so much of the personal voice which is lost with written words, unadorned with body language, tone of voice, and facial expressions. Emoji are like a written solution to this issue (for those that don’t pick up on context on words alone). I am fine with the usage of emoji.
Oof, yeah, Death By Appointment might be a better name as I couldn’t see them offering on the spot meat suit evacuation! It’s a process to get approval for getting a humane end to one’s medical suffering. They’d likely be too swamped to do it any other way.
During my time of Pop!_OS I never had that experience; it might be worth checking the system logs to figure out if something unusual is afoot! An event that coincides with an incoming update.
I would love to see this kind of repurposing of properties to be far more common! Malls tend to be fairly central, so they make ideal locations for being nearby everything a person could need in a residential setting.
And they said AI (LLMs in disguise) would revolutionize how people learn, and make understanding articles through great summaries would be a thing. ROFL I can’t even, this looks like a Google Search result; the nonsense summary makes it abundantly clear. At least Copilot actually was able to give a rational summary (Microsoft censored mentions of the LBGT+ or racy content though, because reasons).
Fascinating, I will be reading this article for inspiration; I wanted to write a homoerotic western fic. This article will dramatically help with that process!
Life would be better if human beings collectively worked to make life better for the previous, current, and next generation of human beings. By creating policies that positively impact the society, quality of life could be much better. Life would gain more meaning if the standard of living would increase, work wasn’t an ever free time-consuming thing, the ailments of the mind were handled much better. We need to fix the crisis that homelessness, hunger, limited or no access to healthcare can cause within a society. If people had the chance to live without worries about the immediate future, perhaps depression would not be such an issue. Right now, it feels like a select many who got theirs are desperate to make sure not many people get the same opportunities. Some want to actively dismantle democracy and destroy the very few social safety nets the USA has, I see this as another source of misery (at least in the USA in particular).
I don’t know what you’ve been reading, but the last time I checked: Science hasn’t proven that there is no god or afterlife; this is still an open question at the moment. It’s a matter of faith, as science is chasing far more important answers. I personally neither disbelief nor believe in a God; there’s no direct proof save what people have written about said being. If anything, a serious lack of direct communication with all living beings on Earth seems to be an indication of an absence of a Creator Being. Also, given the contradictory nature of the bible; it feels like the pure work of man, with no higher power involved. Those who were desperate to control people through faith; latching on to the chance to control a faith-based narrative, since polytheism was on its way out.
It’s been years since I’ve prepared Jello for consumption at home! I like Jello, but only occasionally eat it when I’ve got a craving.
I’ve always felt that Urban Dictionary and a Dictionary are situationally useful. I would’ve never known what ‘eepy’ meant if I used a normal dictionary (honestly, I guessed what it meant just to test myself), which is always late to add new slang words. All the same Urban Dictionary would never be useful for finding the meaning of a well established word.
A swamp cooler would potentially be a solution; those could be used in conjunction with your ready access to water in order to keep your home cool! Sadly, this is not great for areas of the world which already have high levels of humidity in the air. I don’t know if it would work well for you based on not knowing your climate. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evaporative_cooler
I have an iPhone, this is the main reason why I am waiting to see what my options are post paying off my phone! Maybe in a few years time Linux on Mobile matures enough to be a daily driver, I could get a phone which would allow for easy custom OS flashing. I have flashed custom OS on my phones before, it’s not hard to do if you’re able to unlock the device. Honestly, I would prefer there be a real competitor in the phone space who used a Linux Distro as a mobile OS. Someone to drive the development of an open OS on mobile, someone who could back that growth to make sure progress is made. However, in the Android/iOS market, it would be a challenge to get into it, proven by Microsoft’s own failure. Which was due to not having a solid release candidate, app ecosystem, and failing to get significant market share in the mobile phone space.
I like System 76’s hardware, so that’s another reason for wanting to get a laptop from them. If Tuxedo had a USA branch, I would’ve likely gone with their laptop and eventually desktop when it was time for an upgrade. A YouTuber has shown off their Linux Desktops and I do like them quite a bit!
Huh, well that’s good to know! I might buy my laptop from System 76 since they are based in the USA instead of Tuxedo. As Tuxedo is based in Germany, the shipping cost is higher, and it will take longer for me to receive my laptop. If I were based in the EU, Tuxedo would be a no-brainer choice. As far as Pine64; After reading about their smartphone offerings, I’m a bit leery of committing to them as an option. It’s more for mavericks in the Linux space. I am more of an average user who can follow instructions, my knowledge is not a deep well and I could very well get over my head quickly. I still have to pay off my current device anyway; once that’s done, I could make a choice on what my next smartphone might be once it reaches EOL.
This is exciting because a Linux powered phone has been my dream for a while now! I’ve been keeping an eye on Purism, waiting for the day they put out a phablet powered with their custom distro and 5G UC support. To support them, I am strongly considering buying their Librem 14 laptop for on the go creative writing!
Yep, in many cases people live paycheck to paycheck without being able to save money for an emergency. Often, we are just one emergency away from homelessness! By design, the US has very few avenues in the way of social safety nets (the few we do possess for those who are disabled or elderly, are being attacked by Republicans). People have voted against their own best interests enough to cause this crisis; it will be an uphill battle to destroy those walls built against real change.
Yeah, that mentality of ‘at least I still have my job’ with the added cost of work/life imbalance and stress is wild to me! Corporations shouldn’t have so much power as their staff are the ones bringing in the profits. Sane business models can be profitable, respecting their staff’s time and effort. I can only hope more people wake up and unionize! As there have been victories here that should blaze a path.
This is why I use this music with a care. To not only stay sensitive to it, but also due to not having to absolutely be up for something every day.
