Reminded me of this card, very cute

Im encountering alot of AI created websites that explain concepts like “side effects of X pill” (a recent example) and there was basically no real medical websites in the top results, Just clearly AI using thousands of words to say nothing that I cant trust.

I was considering locally hosting a search engine to circumvent my need for them entirely. Search engine optimization seems like a nightmare, if they were trying to give me useful results. So im not sure if that would be a spend 5 hours to save 5 minutes situation.

As you and others said, Its been getting worse for years so its probably just a coincidence that its also profitable for AI.

Im convinced they made search engines worse to promote AI usage.

As someone who is likely on the spectrum, they can tell you are… off, in some way. I think we trigger some sort of anti-sociopath response in people that just makes everyone who doesnt take the time to know you, just feel uneasy. Coupled with the fact that we are anti-social. Theyre going to get the feeling like you intend harm, emotionally or physically.

People have litterally told me, “I thought you hated me” or “youre allright, I thought you were an asshole”. The reality is I do not want to be here and Id rather be anywhere else. Coworkers try to “break up the routine” and have a chat. But when my schedule is thrown off, i go home later, I eat later, I have less me time, I sleep less, and I blame them.

All that being said, Ive come to realize that being “in tune” with coworkers IS part of any job. You dont have to like them, but smiling at them, holding doors, offering help, making jokes, and being generally upbeat improves overall efficiency. It takes no time at all, and It will keep people from feeling like they need to "confront"you to get a feel for who you are. Its stupid but its how they feel “safe”.

If youre busy, politely dismiss conversations and move on. If you cant thats on you, If they get upset/pushy its on them. For being more friendly, I find that watching TV shows about social groups and structure helps alot. Personal favorites include “The Good Place”, “Community”, “Star Trek”, “Golden Girls”. I cant think of more off the top, but maybe lemmy can help add some that resonate with you.

The world needs tractors and consumer-grade cars. They both have use cases. If what you need is a tractor, and you’re comfortable with the fact that it’s not going to work like a car, then a tractor will do things that are totally impossible with a Hyundai Elantra.

have not considered this perspective, and rolling with the metaphor Linux users are essentially rolling down main street with unsightly tractors telling car people how much better it is owning a tractor. when in reality we should be more honest a tractor is simply not for everyone. that being said I agree Arch fedora and nixos were the most user friendly tractors ive used, and similarly have not tried Bazzite, Steamos or chromeos but im hoping they become the “pickup trucks” of the PC world

by all means wait, I recommend trying it but eventually bazzite, steamos, nixos or fedora will take so much market share that your experience will be indistinguishable from windows or simply better.

Also I agree we all have less time with the state of the world right now but when you solve or even just point out a problem on windows or linux you’re making the experience better for other users. If you want to look at yourself like an upaid beta tester thats fine but id rather be working towards improving the software that is free and open source even if its alot less convenient or simple.

I want to say you’re wrong but damn not 20 mins before reading this did I just type into my search engine [“issue x” Arch wayland gnome nvidia grub] to help narrow down my query to my specific system. I will say that once I do this though Im usually met with pretty much exactly what Im looking for or at least a small group of people working toward a solution. It takes getting used to but Im overall much happier with my experience on Linux because like you said its not a 5050 whether i can fix the problem or not, I CAN but now its all about how much time im willing to invest or the community has already invested. With more people moving everyday I can watch my experience get better and better as the community improves everything.

This was the most confusing thing to me when getting started with linux It was baffling to me that jumping from different distros would completely change how i had to install packages or push me to use flatpak. I genuinely could not wrap my head around how there were no universally accepted binaries between distros. And hes talking about this years ago before recent mass adoption…

I landed on an arch based distro because it seems like they have the most universal solution after jumping around. Curious to know, what distro In your opinion the closest to “getting it right”? Open to all not just @PhilipTheBucket

I cannot find it, but my gf showed me this tiktok where a person made an extremely compentent remix within the fortnite music mode. It was a completely original work made of songs within fortnite it was very impressive. All that is to say Im not a fan of low effort work when just a small amount more could turn it into something new and interesting. Monitizing it is just an extra fu imo.

I do get what youre saying about struggling for money, but even so ive seen street artists with some insane talent and or ingenuity. Im of the belief that everyone can practice at something and make a living off of it even if its something wed consider mundane like… sweeping a floor. True. But at the same time If little to no effort is being put in, it does ride the line of being fair use. So if they are monitizing it which i dont think they were doing 15 years ago I find that kind of scummy. but other than that i look at it as the same thing as those AMVs back in the day. Well said, however there are universally accepted indicators within litterature that are used to convey such tone. Not to mention they completely lacked any connotative words that would have helped the average person decipher that instantly. My original message “youre being cheeky right?” was litterally questioning “what side are you on?” because without tone or connotation they might actually hold these beliefs. I think we can agree that they could have easily wrote the original message using these litterary devices to convey the message and connotation perfectly

Thats sad if they actually consider what they are doing art. Ive been out of the loop for a while but when I saw people making this stuff 15 years ago, it seemed like a thing a niche community was doing. I dont think anyone took it seriously.
