I wonder how different things would be now if Roger Stone (still politically involved Roger Stone who was a major player in the last Trump administration and who has a back tattoo of Nixon) hadn’t caused the Brooks Brothers Riot and fucked up the counting of votes in Florida allowing the supreme Court (whoch at the time had multiple clerks that Trump put on the court) to declare Bush the winner.

I’m well aware, but we don’t get to build an AGI and then figure it out, and we can’t keep these ones on target, see any number of “funny” errors people posted, up to the paper I can’t recall the name of offhand that had all of the examples of even simpler systems being misaligned.
I’ve been concerned about AI as x risk for years before big tech had a word to say on the matter. It is both possible for it to be a threat, and for large companies to be trying to take advantage of that.
So I think it’s less relevant to consider Russia qua Russia here, and think of it more as a negative applause light that has had its valence flipped through the exercise of the massive media machine that the right has built to prevent another Nixon from ever having to resign in disgrace again.
Well, the base is definitely suffering from a tragic lack of gravitas. It helps to be aware that you desire to mistake not your own worldview, for a universal one. “Common sense” is never truly common, but derived from the knowledge and beliefs of the individual.
Russia funds them, and in at least some cases has kompromat. See: NRA, 2016 us national party hacks.

I mean, not everyone agrees what the problems are. We can’t even approach talking about solutions until we settle on the problems. And that problem seems to be getting worse.

Transphobia, more than any other bigotry, seems to rot the mind. It’s not obvious to me why it’s that way, but there are several cases where you can watch someone start at some vaguely terfy position, and end by losing their work and nobody wanting to hire them and getting divorced because they just will not shut up about how trans people, a subset of humanity roughly on par with genetic redheads in the general population, are destroying society and making everything awful and ruining their bodies and on and on and on.
TERFs generally in fact do hate both, just in different ways. While I haven’t heard Rowling’s take, I’d be somewhat surprised if it wasn’t some version of the usual patriarchal agency denying thing where trans men are just confused by society telling them lies about escaping repression as women and how horrible it was that these poor girls were going to damage their bodies because they were just too dumb and weak-willed to know what they really wanted, which is a marriage to a good man and pumping out eight or nine kids. They want to take choice and self determination from all trans people, that version just plays better currently.
Incidentally, FtM and MtF are generally deprecated terms. Usually these days the terms, relative to my ordering in the prior sentence, are trans men and trans women, it’s less alienating than the older terms that tend to describe people as a segment of their life that isn’t them.

Hi. I voted uncommitted. In the primary. Also, I advocated for others to vote uncommitted, in the primary. There, it’s a useful signal. In the general, it’s handing the country to people gleefully proclaiming they want to round you up, and who openly and blatantly showed their disregard for your continued existence by letting a plague run rampant on the basis that cities vote blue and are more crowded so would suffer more death.
I’m not sure why you think that letting the Republicans win by voting third party does anything but make things much, much worse, than not letting them win. First past the post elections are in part a keynesian beauty contest, and if you can’t recognize how that is the case, I don’t think you have a lot to correct me on.
I have no interest in downvoting you, but I would like to say that on priors, I would be surprised to learn that she saw “Hamas” and “Palestinians” as anything other than a distinction without a difference. She’s electively of a set with Lindsey “Nuke Gaza” Graham, and she’s voting for Trump apparently now, who has been very vocal about his support for the “kill them all” perspective.
