Oh boy, our own House of Lords!

It’s an ETF, you can buy as much or as little as you want. My understanding is that they take their money and sell options (covered calls) with at-the-money strike prices on NASDAQ. Each month, they pay out dividends, something like 1% per month (bit over 12% on a yearly basis). So if you park 100$, you get like a free dollar per month, or 12 per year.
It’s not hugely popular because you pay short term gains taxes on the dividends, a lot of tech does better than 12%, the shares can decrease in value if NASDAQ goes down, and if you wanted to (and had the startup cash), you could do the exact same thing without paying the ETF fees - buy 100 shares of QQQ for 62k, then sell a covered call for a month out, rinse repeat

If you parked a million dollars in QYLD, you’d get about $120k per year (pretax) in exchange for your contribution to society of “having a spare million dollars”

George Conway had an interesting “fix” that gets around the constitutional obstacles where older justices are relegated to something like emeritus positions and new justices are appointed to the main bench to take their place
I was going to send a DM to cowbee, but it may be worth knowng for others. I’m a bit older and may be a “normie” leftist with moderate anti-cap views and have unexamined prejudices about the USSR. I liked what I read from Lenin/Marx (one work each, i know!) but don’t like the reality of what I know of Stalin so don’t want that association. After reading some more, I’ll reexamine the USSR prejudices. So thanks to cowbee and folks who didn’t assume malice
Civil and Fair, so thanks. I’ll also pay more attention to the instance in the future if only to not be so baffled. Even if folks consider the Soviets progressive for the time, my 2 cents is that tying modern anticapitalism to the realities of USSR, especially Stalinism, does a disservice to progressive movements and even Marxism. But as you say, it’s a minority opinion, so I’ll accept my downvotes. Thanks again
Fascism is probably heading more towards neo-Feudalism than sticking with traditional capitalism
Because the Soviets were assholes. I didn’t realize that would be controversial. I wish folks wouldn’t restrict the concept of anti-capitalism to the ussr. Raised fist? Red and black?
Lowkey yikes. I don’t want to associate myself with either graphic

I think the offer was fine, especially since it was rejected. Shows goodwill negotiation that independents say they like, doesn’t cost anything

That effort is what finally pushed me to the super sketchy-sounding freetaxusa. Its actually been great for the last few years - easier than TurboTax and cheaper

I kind of feel bad for her. She genuinely does seem to be spiraling

I want to know if the MRI was ordered before or after the “very hard” cognitive test…my grandfather’s dementia was diagnosed as due to multiple infarctions and he lived a long time in memory care. Get the 25th ready

I mean, go ahead? The rat fuckery of the last “primary” has a lot to do with our current administration. I think blame for that rests squarely on Biden and that she would’ve been a fine president. That said, I’m not sure I’d vote for her in a primary, so I’d much rather she not be anointed by the DNC or major PACs before a fair primary

I don’t know, the line between malice and stupidity has become so blurred with these folks - like some really didnt know what they were voting for but that’s only because they didn’t want to either out of weakness or assholishness. I never really grasped Malicious Stupidity before, nor how many of us were in its throes.

I get this take and am in the same boat. The thing though is that the people who disapprove with trump is about the same as the number that “strongly disapprove” of trump. We have no more loathing to give.
Righting the ship will require breaking through to the disconnected and mildly red.
And the WH destruction is a) not a traditionally partisan issue, b) strongly symbolic, and c) a powerful visual.
So is it the worst thing he’s doing? Not by a mile. Will I be happy if it wakes people up? Vehemently.
Hey, they got Capone on tax fraud

There are a couple issues the left-of-center crowd have pushed that would help everyone’s wages: Higher minimum wage would raise wages beyond those at the minimum. Universal healthcare would allow workers to be less tied to their current jobs (and enable more entrepreneurship Anti corruption measures and progressive taxation aren’t quite as popular among mainstream Dems, but would go a long way as well. There’s a lot of work to do and the longer this shotshow goes on, the harder it will be later, as you say. America is losing so much expertise and power to this fascist garbage
Primary season will be interesting to see this year
