Percentage is probably one of the easiest ways to calculate a difference but presenting a percentage change can be mildly misleading if you don’t know what the original numbers are.
An increase of 100% is really a 2x increase, 1000% increase is an 11x increase.
If there used to be 1 ICE raid a month and now there are 11, that’s a 1000% increase. Given the change in directive and ramp up in action I’d be somewhat surprised if it was only 1000%

I haven’t bought anything from Walmart, Amazon, or Target in over a decade, probably close to two. Sure it costs a little more, but I try to source as much as I can from Costco which helps balance but otherwise I do almost all my shopping from local groceries (surefine, tops) and local hardware stores (franchises I know but generally locally owned)

It’s about direction of rotation, does the wrench turn left or turn right, there isn’t the same notion of up and down / in and out because that portion happens when the bolt or nut turns. Also, anything rotation is moving the opposite direction on the other side of the rotation, so if you have to tighten a screw that turns towards you it’s the opposite

The reason it’s relevant is that most working people do not earn salaries, they earn hourly rates. I’m a welding engineer earning a salary, working with maintenance men and welders and operators who all earn hourly rates. Every company I’ve ever worked for has both salary and hourly and also an HR department.
The situation you are describing does not align with the vast majority of working people’s experiences.
Not defending either side, but how often do hourly employees get raises based on performance at your wife’s company? You say performance should lead to salary increases, but what about the majority of people who only make hourly rates?
