My cat was a great mouser. Unfortunately, she would only eat the top/front half of the mouse – leaving a little bit of spine sticking out – and then put the rest on my pillow next to my head while I was asleep. Let’s just say that scene in The Godfather Part I hits home.

My cat is a picky eater but she loves the frozen thawed pinkie mice usually sold for reptiles.
Happy well feed cats hunt for sport. If you don’t feed them they will eat the mice but only untill they are full and will let other mice just run around.

It always makes me imagine what woukd happen if cats had become the dominant species on Earth instead, and taken to the stars. They’d be almost like the Daleks - they’d be a murderous technocracy ruled by a priesthood of scientists who demand new aliens to dissect, regularly.
But still so cute.
We had lots of cats when I grew up. Quite a few selected carefully what parts of mice they ate and which they didn’t. Like, down to the organ carefully.
“The spleen is for my human, I’ll put it in their shoes. But the liver? That’s a treat!”

That’s easy stop feeding the farm cats and the mice get to be a big problem. Feed them regularly and you never have any mice.
